In the new trailer for Project Hail Mary<\/a>, Ryan Gosling\u2019s Dr. Ryland Grace is trying to save the world \u2014 and he\u2019s getting lots of help from his adorable alien buddy Rocky.<\/p>\n

The new trailer for the adaptation of Andy Weir\u2019s acclaimed 2021 novel of the same name finds Earth in a very precarious position. The sun is dying, and Grace, a molecular biologist, is the only person who may be able to help. But though he agrees to go to space alone in hopes of saving the planet, he meets someone on his journey: a rock-looking alien who, Grace learns, is actually a \u201cbrilliant engineer.\u201d Apparently, this alien \u2014 who Grace dubs \u201cRocky,\u201d for obvious reasons \u2014 is trying to save his own planet. Can Grace and Rocky find a solution to \u201csave the stars”? Cue \u201cChampagne Supernova\u201d by Oasis as they race to find out.<\/p>\n

Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller from a screenplay by Drew Goddard, Project Hail Mary is already getting fans of the novel excited \u2014 particularly because of how close it appears to stick to the novel.<\/p>\n

One fan wrote in the comments on YouTube: \u201cThis trailer honestly looks like the book jumped off the pages and onto the screen. Which it should. The book is absolutely perfect, nothing needs to be changed. I can’t wait for this movie.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another added, \u201cThis truly looks phenomenal. It looks pretty faithful to the book so far, and I\u2019ve cried just to this trailer so god knows what I\u2019ll be like in the cinema!!\u201d<\/p>\n

A third complimented how \u201cfaithful\u201d the trailer is to the \u201clittle details\u201d of the book. \u201cI’m kind of glad they showed so much of Rocky,\u201d they added. \u201cPeople will know exactly what kind of movie this is going to be and still don’t have the major spoilers revealed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gosling previously spoke about his excitement about the upcoming movie. \u201cIt\u2019s an insanely ambitious story that\u2019s massive in scope, and it seemed really hard to make, and that\u2019s kind of our bag,\u201d the actor, who is also a producer on the film, said about Project Hail Mary at CinemaCon earlier this year, according to Variety<\/a>. \u201cThis is why we go to the movies.\u201d<\/p>\n
