Maltese painter Nickie Sultana will launch a solo exhibition titled Valletta Abstracted\u00a0at Teatru Salesjan, running from November 2025 through January 2026.<\/p>\n
The new collection draws on repeated observations of the Valletta skyline. Sultana described\u00a0returning \u201cagain and again, to the same view, as if it were a refrain in a song I can\u2019t stop humming.\u201d She described the skyline as a\u00a0\u201cgolden, fractured by light, softened by haze, or blazing with sunset fire\u201d as seen from boat trips entering the harbour.<\/p>\n
Rather than pursuing photographic accuracy, Sultana goes for abstract and\u00a0variation to explore perception and memory. \u201cThe repetition becomes a meditation on perception, memory, and time: a dialogue between constancy and change,\u201d she writes.<\/p>\n
Born in 1973, Sultana studied both classical and contemporary art at the Lorenzo de Medici and Leonardo da Vinci academies in Florence. She has held ten solo exhibitions since 1995 and participated in multiple group shows in Malta and abroad. Her work is represented in private collections internationally and noted in the International Dictionary of Artists Who Painted Malta.<\/p>\n
The exhibition Valletta Abstracted\u00a0by artist Nickie Sultana will be held at Teatru Salesjan in Sliema, running from November 2025 to January 2026.
