{"id":147803,"date":"2025-11-19T06:55:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T06:55:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/147803\/"},"modified":"2025-11-19T06:55:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T06:55:08","slug":"chinese-economist-calls-on-beijing-to-add-consumption-target-to-long-term-goals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/147803\/","title":{"rendered":"Chinese economist calls on Beijing to add consumption target to long-term goals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">China should add a quantitative target for consumption growth as part of its long-term modernisation goals to help sustain growth momentum as the country\u2019s population declines, a prominent Chinese economist said.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cIn addition to setting a gross domestic product growth per capita target through 2035, we should also establish a target for the household final consumption rate \u2013 meaning the share of household consumption in GDP should be increased as well,\u201d said Cai Fang, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, household consumption accounts for about 39 per cent of China\u2019s GDP, Cai said on Tuesday at the International Forum on China\u2019s Economy and Policy in Hong Kong.
