James Gunn<\/a> has responded to a streaming-related complaint after a DC<\/a> movie has now been made available to watch on Netflix<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Gunn and Peter Safran\u2019s DCU<\/a> kicked off at DC Studios<\/a> and Warner Bros. Pictures<\/a> in December 2024 with the animated Creature Commandos series. That was followed by Superman and Peacemaker Season 2 in 2025, while Lanterns, Supergirl, and Clayface are all scheduled to arrive in 2026.<\/p>\n

Recently, Netflix made 2023\u2019s Blue Beetle<\/a> available to watch on the streaming platform. The film was originally intended to be part of the now-defunct DCEU<\/a>; however, Gunn has stated that Xolo Maridue\u00f1a\u2019s Jaime Reyes\/Blue Beetle character will continue in the DCU. An animated DCU Blue Beetle series is now in development.<\/p>\n

What did James Gunn say about the DCU and streaming?<\/p>\n

On Threads<\/a>, Gunn was asked why Blue Beetle is available to watch on Netflix when other DCEU and DCU movies are not. Specifically, the question asks why all DC titles can\u2019t just be kept to one streaming service in order to avoid confusion.<\/p>\n

Gunn responded, \u201cCreature Commandos and Peacemaker are on the same streaming service, HBOMax<\/a>. And Blue Beetle is there too. But now people who only have Netflix can watch it as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Blue Beetle received generally positive reviews from critics, though it underperformed at the box office, as it only made $130.8 million globally. The cast of the movie also includes Adriana Barraza as Nana, Dami\u00e1n Alc\u00e1zar as Alberto Reyes, Elpidia Carrillo as Rocio Reyes, Bruna Marquezine as Jenny Kord, Raoul Max Trujillo as OMAC, Susan Sarandon as Victoria Kord, George Lopez as Rudy Reyes, Belissa Escobedo as Milagro Reyes, and Harvey Guill\u00e9n as Dr. Sanchez.<\/p>\n
