A 25-year-old man has been before the district court in Cork charged with murdering his mother and with assault causing harm to his father.<\/p>\n
David Gallagher, of Shrewsbury Downs, Ballinlough, Cork, was remanded in custody.<\/p>\n
Stella Gallagher, who was 59, suffered fatal injuries when she was stabbed as she attempted to escape from her home at Shrewsbury Downs in Ballinlough on Monday night.<\/p>\n
Her 62-year old husband, Brian, was seriously injured.<\/p>\n
Ms Gallagher was brought to Cork University Hospital, but was pronounced dead there before midnight on Monday.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed began an investigation.<\/p>\n
Yesterday, a technical and forensic examination was conducted at the Gallaghers’ home, door-to-door enquiries were carried out, and a local green area was searched.<\/p>\n
This afternoon, David Gallagher was brought before the district court in Cork.<\/p>\n
Detective Sergeant Niall Hayes gave evidence of arresting David Gallagher and charging him with murdering his mother, and with assault causing harm to his father.<\/p>\n
He said David Gallagher made no reply when the charges were put to him.<\/p>\n
Solicitor Shane Collins-Daly said there was consent to a remand in custody.<\/p>\n
Judge John King remanded Mr Gallagher in custody, and recommended that he receive urgent psychiatric evaluation in prison.<\/p>\n
He will be back before the court next Thursday.<\/p>\n
