A humpback whale that has become a regular visitor to the Isles of Scilly has returned.<\/p>\n
The Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust said had been visiting the islands in winter over several years, including in 2023 and 2024.<\/p>\n
Olivia Willmore, fundraising and communications manager at Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust, said the appearances had been “absolutely wonderful”.<\/p>\n
She said the islands, 28 miles (45km) off the Cornish coast, were on the migration route. “We are so privileged to have them pass by us every single year,” she said.<\/p>\n
Ms Willmore said the trust knew the whale was Pi because of the markings on its dorsal fin but the gender of the whale was unclear.<\/p>\n
She said: “Those markings are incredibly unique from whale to whale so they are almost like a human fingerprint.<\/p>\n
“Scilly is an enormous draw for wildlife watchers anyway, you know, our seabirds are, we have some extraordinary unique colonies that land on the islands, but I think certainly some people are starting to come with the hope of whale spotting.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A humpback whale that has become a regular visitor to the Isles of Scilly has returned.
