The development of the new hospital extension is currently underway at Sligo University Hospital which will boost bed capacity and future growth in key clinical services.<\/p>\n

As part of the construction works on site, the public are being advised of a temporary change to the main entrance of the hospital which will take effect in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

Construction of the new facility started last month and is expected to provide an interim capacity enhancement, ahead of the longer term delivery of the Multi-Service Block.<\/p>\n

The project includes the construction of two 21 bed wards, each comprising of a single ensuite room with supporting ancillary accommodation, providing a total of 42 additional inpatient beds. This will enhance patient privacy, comfort, and infection control while addressing immediate pressures on SUH capacity.<\/p>\n

In addition to the bed expansion, the development will include a shell-and-core area, designed to support the future development of a Cardiology CT unit and an expanded Day Oncology Services area, enabling phased service enhancement without the need for major infrastructure changes later.<\/p>\n

Grainne McCann, Hospital Manager of SUH said, \u201cThis expansion reflects our commitment to meeting the growing healthcare needs of our community, while also planning for future demand. By delivering additional bed capacity and expanding our services, we are ensuring better outcomes for patients.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs part of the development, from Monday 24th November, the main public entrance to SUH will be temporarily relocated to facilitate the construction works.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis temporary entrance will be in place for approximately 16 weeks close to the current entrance, along The Mall. To support patients and visitors during this time, the hospital will have supports available including clear onsite signage, information on directions included in patients appointment letters to help patients plan their journey ahead of their visit to the hospital. The new temporary main entrance is approximately 65 metres towards the roundabout for the main carpark and Emergency Department.<\/p>\n
