New consolidated accounts filed by Supermac\u2019s (Holdings) Ltd show that the group\u2019s pre-tax profits declined by 9.5pc to \u20ac39.44m, despite revenues increasing by 7pc from \u20ac294.37m to a record \u20ac314.1m \u2013 an average of \u20ac6m per week.<\/p>\n
A significant factor behind the decrease in profits was the group contributing \u20ac2m in pension costs for the co-owners and directors of the business, Pat McDonagh and Una McDonagh, who each hold a 50pc share of the business.<\/p>\n
This resulted in directors\u2019 pay increasing from \u20ac152,425 in 2023 to \u20ac2.15m \u2013 made up of the pension costs of \u20ac2m and remuneration of \u20ac152,425 \u2013 last year.<\/p>\n
The \u20ac2m pension cost for the directors was part of an overall \u20ac7m pension cost across the group.<\/p>\n
The \u20ac7m in pension costs resulted in staff costs increasing by 21pc from \u20ac57.1m to \u20ac68.89m \u2013 \u20ac56.19m in salaries, \u20ac7m in pension costs and \u20ac5.69m in social welfare payments \u2013 last year.<\/p>\n
Numbers employed last year decreased from 2,527 to 2,458, made up of 2,279 in operating staff and 179 in management and administration.<\/p>\n
The group expanded further earlier this month, opening its new \u20ac20m Banner Plaza on the M18 \u2013 which links Limerick and Galway \u2013 outside Ennis.<\/p>\n
The group recorded a post-tax profit of \u20ac32.95m after incurring a corporation tax charge of \u20ac6.48m.<\/p>\n
In their directors\u2019 report, the McDonaghs stated that \u201cturnover continues to be strong, reflecting the strong demand for the goods and services provided by the group\u201d.<\/p>\n
The McDonaghs stated that \u201cgross profit margins continue to perform well and, while the group continues to have to deal with escalating costs, the directors are pleased with the performance in the year\u201d.<\/p>\n
Along with the Supermac\u2019s chain of restaurants, the group also operates a number of hotels and is involved in the property sector.<\/p>\n
The group generated \u20ac3.75m in other operating income last year.<\/p>\n
The stellar performance by the group further strengthened the group\u2019s balance sheet, with accumulated profits of \u20ac285.99m at the end of December 2024.<\/p>\n
The group\u2019s cash funds increased from \u20ac111.65m to \u20ac139.65m.<\/p>\n
