Spacey was ousted from Hollywood circles amid the #MeToo movement, when actor Anthony Rapp first publicly accused him of sexual misconduct.<\/p>\n
Rapp said Spacey sexually assaulted him in 1986 when he was just 14 years old, prompting allegations from at least a dozen more men. <\/p>\n
Though Spacey had Rapp\u2019s case dismissed and was found not guilty of other charges by a UK court the following year, his legal expenses were reportedly financially devastating.<\/p>\n
He has continually denied all allegations against him and has maintained a presence in the public eye in spite of his so-called \u201cblacklisting\u201d.<\/p>\n
Spacey was speaking to the Telegraph from Cyprus, where he is currently attempting to launch a comeback, performing as a singer at a Limassol resort.<\/p>\n
He told reporters he was \u201cin touch with some extremely powerful people who want to put me back to work\u201d in mainstream Hollywood.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat I think the industry seems to be waiting for is to be given permission \u2013 by someone who is in some position of enormous respect and authority,” he said. <\/p>\n
\u201cSo, my feeling is if Martin Scorsese or Quentin Tarantino call tomorrow, it will be over.\u201d<\/p>\n
Motions for the disgraced star to return to show business have been mounting in the past year.<\/p>\n
According to Deadline, Spacey attended this year\u2019s Better World Fund Gala in Cannes to accept an award for his acting, criticising industry \u201cblacklists\u201d as he expressed his gratitude for the invitation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWho would have ever thought that honouring someone who has been exonerated in every court room he\u2019s ever walked into would be thought of as a brave idea. But here we are.\u201d<\/p>\n
Succession star Brian Cox defended his \u201cold friend\u201d in February, telling The i Paper \u201che was misguided, certainly, in terms of his sexuality\u201d but did not deserve to be \u201ccancelled\u201d.<\/p>\n
Last year, fellow actors Sharon Stone and Liam Neeson told the Telegraph they looked forward to Spacey\u2019s return to acting.<\/p>\n
