{"id":152469,"date":"2025-11-21T19:50:19","date_gmt":"2025-11-21T19:50:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/152469\/"},"modified":"2025-11-21T19:50:19","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T19:50:19","slug":"an-airport-becomes-a-gallery-for-nomad-abu-dhabi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/152469\/","title":{"rendered":"An Airport Becomes a Gallery for NOMAD Abu Dhabi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since its foundation back in 2017, design fair NOMAD has been bringing the very best in the collectible market to unique locations, ranging from Karl Lagerfeld\u2019s former residence to the iconic Palais Bulles in Cannes.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the \u201cnomadic\u201d design fair has set up shop inside the historic Terminal 1 at Zayed International Airport.<\/p>\n<p>Emblematic of Gulf modernism, the architecture was conceived by Paul Andreu, with the fair taking over the famous circular lounge and arched walkways.\n<\/p>\n<p>Across the space, international heavyweights like Gallery FUMI and Nilufar are placed alongside regional galleries and emerging talents.\n<\/p>\n<p>Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council, which is dedicated to preserving and reimagining Emirati crafts, has worked in collaboration with Mexican artist and designer Ricardo Rend\u00f3n, while The AP Room presents \u201cThe Roots\u201d by Dubai-based Iranian artist Roham Shamekh.\n<\/p>\n<p>                                    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/https:\/\/hypebeast.com\/image\/2025\/11\/21\/nomad-abu-dhabi-opens-airport-news-0.jpg\" alt=\"An Airport Terminal Becomes a Gallery for NOMAD Abu Dhabi\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cEncompassing categories and themes that thoughtfully and intuitively engage with a range of creative practices (that is, a broad spectrum of artists and designers, art forms, periods, and geographical origin) NOMAD Abu Dhabi unveils a distinctive, multi-faceted perspective,\u201d said founding director Nicolas Bellavance-Lecompte.\n<\/p>\n<p>A new project launch comes in the form of \u201cDepartures\u201d, which functions as a large-scale installation. Located inside the departure hall, this section sheds light on monumental, site-specific works.\n<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, Bottega Veneta presents \u201cDestinations\u201d, a curated show of work by eight designers from North Africa and the Middle East, and Maison Perrier-Jou\u00ebt, is showing an installation titled \u201cCohabitare\u201d by Formafantasma.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike NOMAD itself, Abu Dhabi balances deep respect for heritage with bold, forward-looking ambitions,\u201d adds Bellavance-Lecompte.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe city\u2019s rich cultural landscape, anchored by the Saadiyat Cultural District and institutions such as Louvre Abu Dhabi, provides a vibrant setting for dialogue between local traditions, Islamic aesthetics, and cutting-edge art and design from around the world.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>NOMAD takes place from November 19 to 22.
