Ahead of its debut, the show\u2019s co-creators, twins Matt and Ross Duffer, 41, spoke to The Times U.K.<\/a> \u201cI would say season five is not as violent as season four, but it has the most violent death of any season,\u201d Matt revealed cryptically. <\/p>\n

According to Ross, the pair have tried \u201cto restrain ourselves\u201d from including too much gore across the show\u2019s five-season run<\/a>. \u201cThere was one shot in season three that we did have to cut. It was when Bruce [an obnoxious local journalist] was melting. His nose melts into his face and Netflix said, \u2018Absolutely not!\u2019\u201d he recalled. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s too bad because it was like a $40,000 shot!\u201d Matt exclaimed. \u201cThe only other shot Netflix asked to be cut was when Benny [Hammond, a diner owner] is killed in season one: you saw the bullet go through his head.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ross noted that their goal has always been \u201cto scale up each series with the age of the characters and our audience.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut then we keep getting new audiences,\u201d he added, quipping, \u201cHopefully, parents don\u2019t get too mad at us.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Matt explained, \u201cEvery character\u2019s ending needed to feel right. That was more important than providing the fans with the ending they\u2019re hoping for.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been three years since Stranger Things season four was released. The series, which was once Netflix\u2019s most-watched English-language<\/a> series before being surpassed by season one of Wednesday<\/a>, follows a group of school friends in the fictional Midwest town of Hawkins, Indiana, where a series of supernatural forces and secret government exploits occur. <\/p>\n

Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin and Gaten Matarazzo have led the series since its 2016 debut \u2014\u00a0back when they were all young teens \u2014 alongside Joe Keery, Natalia Dyer, Winona Ryder and David Harbour. <\/p>\n

Sadie Sink joined the cast in season two and has remained a fan favorite. They will all return for the new season, which will feature a time jump intended to <\/a>keep up with how quickly the show\u2019s stars are out-aging the characters they play.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished \u2014 his whereabouts and plans unknown,\u201d reads an official season five logline. <\/p>\n

\u201cComplicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven (Brown), forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will\u2019s (Schnapp) disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread,\u201d it adds. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe final battle is looming \u2014 and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they\u2019ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they\u2019ll need everyone \u2014 the full party \u2014 standing together, one last time.\u201d<\/p>\n
