{"id":15320,"date":"2025-09-11T22:31:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T22:31:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/15320\/"},"modified":"2025-09-11T22:31:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T22:31:11","slug":"project-development-team-for-cork-events-centre-alerts-construction-sector-of-intentions-to-go-to-tender","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/15320\/","title":{"rendered":"Project development team for Cork Events Centre alerts construction sector of intentions to go to tender\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new project development board is pressing ahead with fresh plans for the long-awaited Cork Events Centre, putting the construction sector on alert that it expects to go to tender early next year.<\/p>\n<p>In an update to Cork City Councillors yesterday evening, elected members were told by the chair of the project development board Brian Geaney that City Hall is soon to issue a prior information notice to signal its intentions to the market.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The council described this notice as a \u201ckey milestone\u201d in what will be a multi-stage process that will eventually result in a preferred bidder being chosen for the project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cIn preparing for the procurement of the proposed event centre, the council is interested in engaging with suitably qualified and experienced developers as well as operators and promoters within the live entertainment and events industry in relation to the council\u2019s intended procurement plans and project requirements,\u201d Cork City Council said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Despite a series of delays and false dawns stretching back many years, plans are still being progressed to build an event centre for Cork. Last year, the Government ordered a new procurement process, saying it was required to ensure the project complied with EU laws.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">In April, Cork City Council tendered for a \u201csuitably qualified consultant\u201d to assemble and manage an expert team charged with delivering the various facets of the stalled project \u2014 from construction consultancy, to risk and safety management, and architectural services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Ministers at Cabinet heard this week that the new project management delivery team for the events centre project has been put in place and begun its work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">This team, led by the local authority, includes representatives from government departments and agencies along with members with relevant expertise of Cork.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">It has been meeting monthly since its establishment in January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Fresh engagement with potential developers and operators in the industry is the next step now being undertaken by Cork City Council to progress the project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\n            Interested developers, operators and promoters will be invited to express interest via the eTenders platform, with the intent that one-to-one bilateral discussions would follow.\n        <\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cThe insights gained through this consultation process will be used solely to inform the council\u2019s procurement strategy and to assist in defining the project\u2019s requirements,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The procurement process will be overseen by Aecom, a global project management firm with an office in Cork.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The council added the firm had extensive experience in developing event and conference centres in the US and also been involved in developing a new centre in Cardiff.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A new project development board is pressing ahead with fresh plans for the long-awaited Cork Events Centre, putting&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":15321,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[79,61,60,43],"class_list":{"0":"post-15320","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-ireland","8":"tag-cork-news","9":"tag-ie","10":"tag-ireland","11":"tag-news"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/15320","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=15320"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/15320\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/15321"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=15320"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=15320"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=15320"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
