The collective excitement for Avengers: Doomsday is\u00a0through the roof. Fans desperately want\u00a0to know as much as possible about the movie.\u00a0And for\u00a0good reason. The film marks Robert Downey Jr.’s MCU return, and, perhaps most importantly, features the return of Fox’s X-Men. This time, though, they won’t be wearing black leather.\u00a0The X-Men are expected to suit up<\/a> in their classic comic book costumes\u00a0for the film. Unfortunately, we have not gotten an actual image of the actors suited up… or have we? A picture\u00a0recently surfaced picture\u00a0may have had you thiningk otherwise.<\/p>\n

The palpable\u00a0excitement around Doomsday has prompted some to spread what have, so far, appeared to be AI-generated images<\/a> of\u00a0the movie’s cast. These have ranged from Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, to Tobey Maguire’s\u00a0Spider-Man. Though it’s been difficult to tell apart the fake from the authentic, most images shared have been commonly understood to be made with AI. However, an X-Men-centric image (which will not be linked here, but has been widespread)\u00a0popped up online, and, my dear readers, for the life of me, I was not able to\u00a0tell if it was\u00a0AI-generated or not.<\/p>\n

The picture appears\u00a0to feature Doomsday’s\u00a0X-Men\u2014James Marsden’s Cyclops, Ian McKellen’s Magneto, Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique, Channing Tatum’s Gambit, Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler,\u00a0Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambaeu and Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier, all together, in\u00a0their comic book suits. The photo\u00a0sparked a lot of debate online. Some claimed it\u00a0was\u00a0AI-generated, while others argued\u00a0it had\u00a0too many “realistic” details to have been made by\u00a0artificial intelligence. It was… a complicated matter.<\/p>\n

For a time, my mind was a mixture of those debates\u2014unable to decipher whether or not the information my eyes were\u00a0processing was generated by a computer, or if seven people actually posed for that picture, making a lot of fans’\u00a0decades-long dreams a reality.\u00a0Fortunately, if you, too, were lost in the sea of uncertainty regarding the legitimacy of said picture, there seems to be\u00a0an answer on the matter. Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez took to X to debunk<\/a> the image.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the amount of fake AI pictures\u00a0purported to be from Avengers: Doomsday continues to grow. Upon the image hitting the internet, for example, a new\u00a0one\u00a0showed up, apparently showing the X-Men sitting in a room. There was only a slight problem with it: Beast’s head was on\u00a0Nightcrawler’s body.<\/p>\n

Then, a purported\u00a0“selfie” of Teyonah Parris, James Marsden and Channing Tatum\u2014all in costume\u2014also surfaced. However, the image showed\u00a0the actress holding a phone which, despite meant to be an iPhone 17 Pro, does not match the real-life design of the devic, signaling its AI origins.\u00a0So, what’s the conclusion here? That the X-Men in the image look\u00a0remarkably comic accurate, but the picture does not appear to be\u00a0real. The quality of it, though, is a testament to how advanced artificial intelligence\u00a0has gotten just a\u00a0short amount of time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters\u00a0on December 18, 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n
