\n\tNo, Cillian Murphy won\u2019t be playing Voldemort in HBO<\/a>\u2018s upcoming \u201cHarry Potter<\/a>\u201d series.<\/p>\n

\n\tMurphy dispelled the rumors during an appearance on Josh Horowitz\u2019s \u201cHappy Sad Confused<\/a>\u201d podcast on Thursday. He said that while his children have shown him the online chatter from fans who would like to see him play the \u201cHarry Potter\u201d villain, there was no truth to it. \u201cI don\u2019t know anything about that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAlso, it\u2019s just really hard to follow anything Ralph Fiennes does,\u201d Murphy added, as Fiennes played the role in five of the eight \u201cHarry Potter\u201d movies. \u201cThe man is an absolute acting legend, so good luck to whoever\u2019s gonna fill those shoes.\u201d He also jokes that he\u2019s \u201cvery attached\u201d to his nose, as Voldemort\u2019s nose is depicted as flat with narrow slits for nostrils.<\/p>\n

\n\tThough the rumors may have just originated among hopeful fans, at least one Hollywood figure offered them some legitimacy: Fiennes himself. In December, the original Voldemort actor appeared on \u201cWatch What Happens Live,\u201d where he was asked for his thoughts on the matter.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cCillian is a fantastic actor,\u201d Fiennes said at the time<\/a>. \u201cThat\u2019s a wonderful suggestion. I would be all in favor of Cillian. Yeah.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the first movie, 2001\u2019s \u201cHarry Potter and the Sorceror\u2019s Stone,\u201d Voldemort appears as a face on the back of the head of Professor Quirrell\u2019s, played by Ian Hart, and is additionally voiced by Richard Bremmer in a flashback. In 2002\u2019s \u201cThe Chamber of Secrets,\u201d the second movie, Christian Coulson plays Voldemort in a teenage flashback. Voldemort doesn\u2019t appear in the third movie, 2004\u2019s \u201cPrisoner of Azkaban.\u201d But beginning with \u201cThe Goblet of Fire\u201d in 2005 and ending with \u201cThe Deathly Hallows: Part 2,\u201d the villain is played in adult form by Fiennes.<\/p>\n
