Kildare, R14T262<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Price: \u20ac275,000<\/p>\n<p>Agent: Fingleton &amp; Co.<\/p>\n<p>Athy\u2019s handmade bricks are one of the most reputable of their kind within construction circles.<\/p>\n<p>They can be found in many of Dublin&#8217;s bougie redbrick suburbs, particularly Rathmines and Rathgar and in Guinness\u2019s malthouse and hop stores.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re also evident in number 9 Saint Michael\u2019s Terrace, just off the Co. Kildare town\u2019s main street.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Image-10-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt=\"Athy&#10;\" class=\"wp-image-8030\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The owners, Killian and Ciara, bought the house five years ago and set about upgrading and modernising it to create a layout that worked for family life.<\/p>\n<p>They also shopped locally for some of their building materials. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To the right of the hall is its sitting room, painted a dark shade to picture rail height.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Image-11-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8029\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The colour in question is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curatorpaints.ie\/products\/gatekeepers-lodge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Curator Paint\u2019s Gate Keeper\u2019s Lodge<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Its chimney breast features the local brick exposed to create contrast with the deep colour on the walls. This wall is bookended by two pale oak sideboards from Danish chain <a href=\"https:\/\/homeandstyle.ie\/tag\/jysk\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"177\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">JYSK<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Across the hall is a very smart kitchen that also features the local brick.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Image-2-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8019\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The birch ply custom design is by <a href=\"https:\/\/kierancourtneykitchens.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kieran Courtney<\/a>, a fabricator based outside Enniscorthy in Co. Wexford.<\/p>\n<p>It has quartz countertops and includes a narrow cloakroom cabinet on one side of the chimneybreast that also houses the modem and printer.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Image-6-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8010\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Look again and you will see that the dining table actually fits into the fireplace void.<\/p>\n<p>It means they can slide the table into the void to give them more circulation space when it\u2019s just the couple and their two-year-old sitting down to eat.<\/p>\n<p>They pull it out when they have friends or family over. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Image-7-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8009\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The partial reconfiguring of this chimney breast was also done to show off the Arthy building blocks, which now face out so you can see that each one is stamped with the brand, Athy Brick and Tile Company.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a stylish way to pay homage to the town\u2019s industrial past and fly the circular economy flag.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Image-4-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8012\"\/><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kildare-nationalist.ie\/life\/how-athys-brick-industry-came-to-an-end_arid-25416.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Kildare Nationalist<\/a>, the Athy Brick and Tile factory opened at Barrowford in 1893.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBricks stamped \u2018Athy Brick and Tile Co.\u2019 were produced by machinery initially for building works on the Curragh Army Camp and subsequently for the Dublin market.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The factory even had its own railway line siding from about 1900, which allowed the bricks to be brought by train using the Dublin Waterford line.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Image-8-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8008\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Behind the kitchen is a utility room where the washer, dryer and fridge freezer are all housed.<\/p>\n<p>It takes a lot of appliance noise out of the main kitchen.<\/p>\n<p>The family bathroom is at this level and includes a bath.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Image-22-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8016\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Upstairs, on the return, is the nursery, the first of its three bedrooms.<\/p>\n<p>There are two doubles and a shower room on the first floor.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Image-14-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8025\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The principal is painted in a Dulux colour called Celtic Forest.<\/p>\n<p>Set in a quiet cul-de-sac, the property is within a couple of minutes\u2019 walk of Athy\u2019s train station, where the journey time to Dublin\u2019s Heuston Station is 40 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Several supermarkets, Lidl, Aldi and SuperValu, are all similarly proximate.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Image-23-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8015\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The couple purchased the house in 2020 and lived in it, waiting a year before doing any renovation work. Since then, their family unit has grown to four, which includes a three-month-old baby.<\/p>\n<p>The double-fronted three-bedroom, two-bathroom terraced house is now looking for a new family, and almost all the hard work is already done.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Image-1-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8031\"\/><\/p>\n<p>They still haven\u2019t finished painting the second double bedroom.
