EXCLUSIVE: Jamie Durie and wife Ameka Jane certainly know a thing or two about building.<\/p>\n

They’ve spent the past two years building a waterfront eco-home at Avalon on Sydney’s northern beaches which is now on the market for $33 million<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In his new show Jamie Durie’s Future House<\/a>, which premieres tonight at 8:30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now, Jamie is building Australia’s second ever 3D-printed home \u2013 and he’s doing it all in three months.<\/p>\n

From Avalon to Byron Bay, Jamie and Ameka’s next home will be on their farm in Bangalow in northern New South Wales.<\/p>\n

Jamie admits it sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie but the house is printed\ufeff in a warehouse before being craned and dropped over the slab and then sealed with a roof in just five days.<\/p>\n

Jamie says this is the future of homes in Australia.<\/p>\n

“We’ve got 1.21 million homes to build in five years and if we’re going to keep up with the demands that Australia has for new homes we’re currently 300,000 tradesmen short\ufeff of achieving those goals.<\/p>\n

“3D printing technology could very well be a possible solution the housing crisis.”\ufeff<\/p>\n

For Jamie and Ameka, their 3D printed Byron Bay property will be more of a “holiday home”.<\/p>\n

“This will be our weekender. I guess you could best explain\ufeff it as our country escape,” he said.<\/p>\n

\ufeff”If what we’ve created in Avalon is anything to go by this new future house here in our property in this hills of Byron will be extraordinary.<\/p>\n

Jamie and Ameka’s aren’t embarking on this mammoth construction totally solo, they’re two young kids Beau and Nash are also coming along for the ride.<\/p>\n

When asked if they butt heads like most couples do when renovating or building, Ameka said she and Jamie “pick and choose [their] battles”.<\/p>\n

“We do tend to agree on style and aesthetic,” Ameka began before Jamie chimed in, “I’m probabl\ufeffy a little bit more optimistic when it comes to budget and times.”<\/p>\n

Jamie continued, raving about his wife: “She’s an incredible designer and anything she puts her hand to, I’m on board. What she’s doing with the interiors of this house is mind-blowing.” \ufeff<\/p>\n
