The office of Ceann Comhairle, Verona Murphy, has requested that Sinn F\u00e9in take down a photograph which was posted today on social media, in which she appears with the party’s politicians marking “International day for the elimination of violence against women”.<\/p>\n
In a statement tonight, the Ceann Comhairle’s office said that Sinn F\u00e9in has “acceded to that request”.<\/p>\n
The statement said the office believed the photocall was cross-party and, on that basis, that the Ceann Comhairle was photographed.<\/p>\n
It was a Sinn F\u00e9in event, in which the party’s politicians wore orange to support the campaign, ahead of a Sinn F\u00e9in Private Members Bill: “Victims of Sexual Violence Civil Protections Orders Bill 2025.”<\/p>\n
The statement from the Ceann Comhairle\u2019s office added: “To suggest that the Ceann Comhairle was photographed in support of a Sinn F\u00e9in bill is absolutely inaccurate and seriously misleading.<\/p>\n
“In that regard, the Ceann Comhairle has made contact with Sinn F\u00e9in this evening regarding the use of the photo on social media in the context of supporting the Sinn F\u00e9in bill.”<\/p>\n
“The Ceann Comhairle\u2019s participation in the photo call was not in anticipation of such use,” the statement added.<\/p>\n
