\n\tDavid Letterman<\/a> threw his support behind Seth Meyers<\/a> after the Late Night host became the latest talk show target of President Donald Trump<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter Trump called on NBC to fire Meyers, Letterman appeared on \u201cThe Barbra Gaines Show\u201d (Gaines was Letterman\u2019s longtime producer on The Late Show) and said, \u201cI\u2019ve never been more proud of Seth Meyers,\u201d. An incredulous Letterman then recalled his reaction to Trump\u2019s demand, quipping, \u201cI thought, \u2018This is just delightful. How do you think that\u2019s going to go?\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tLetterman went on to note that Late Night used to be his \u201cold show\u201d before his move to CBS: \u201cWe used to do that show, and [Meyers] does a magical job. But just remember, Seth, things happen. You know what I\u2019m saying?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile Trump has lashed out<\/a> at Meyers before, earlier this month, the president called on NBC to fire him in a post on Truth Social. Trump accused Meyers of \u201csuffering from an incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome,\u201d and insisted the comedian had \u201cno talent.\u201d Trump\u2019s post was notably shared by his FCC chairman, Brendan Carr, whose previous threats<\/a> against ABC helped lead to <\/a>Jimmy Kimmel\u2019s temporary suspension<\/a> in September.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tTrump\u2019s post about Meyers appears to have had little impact. Meyers brushed off the jabs<\/a> on his show, joking, \u201cI\u2019m also aware that being attacked by the president this weekend doesn\u2019t make me special in any way, shape or form. I was simply on the same shit list as Christopher Wray, James Comey, Indiana Republicans, Thomas Massie, Rand Paul, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and former President Joe Biden.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe added, \u201cI want to clarify that I take no issue with the president voicing his displeasure with my show. That is his right, and on a lot of nights, he\u2019s got a point.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs for Letterman, he\u2019s been a frequent<\/a> critic<\/a> of Trump (later on \u201cThe Barbra Gaines Show,\u201d he called the administration a \u201cwonder of idiocy\u201d and referred to the president as \u201cour dictator\u201d), especially as the president has focused his ire on Letterman\u2019s late-night successors. During the Kimmel debacle, Letterman said<\/a>, \u201cYou can\u2019t go around firing somebody because you\u2019re fearful or trying to suck up to an authoritarian criminal administration in the Oval Office. That\u2019s just not how this works.\u201d<\/p>\n
