Jedward, the world\u2019s first submarine, Guinness<\/a>, and cream crackers \u2013 these are just a few of Ireland<\/a>\u2019s most beloved exports.<\/p>\n And now, there\u2019s a new favourite from the Emerald Isle that Brits can\u2019t get enough of.<\/p>\n Irish butter brand Kerrygold has become a viral online sensation, featuring in countless social media<\/a> videos and being praised by influencers for its golden creamy texture.<\/p>\n One particularly enthusiastic content creator, @ashling, even went as far as to claim that Kerrygold is \u2018the best thing you will ever put in your mouth.\u2019<\/p>\n In fact, it\u2019s become the fastest growing major butter brand over the last year, and a spokesperson for the brand told Metro that \u2018sales of the sweet spreads have tripled since they began going viral on TikTok<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n So, why the sudden obsession?<\/p>\n \t\t In 2024, Kerrygold was named the \u2018best butter\u2019 by The New York<\/a> Times.<\/p>\n According to the publication, it came out on top due to its \u2018pronounced buttery flavor and aroma,\u2019 with the salted butter in particular getting a hefty shoutout \u2013 described as \u2018golden, grassy, and velvety.\u2019<\/p>\n Their butter is made with milk from grass-fed Irish cows, giving the product that iconic golden glow. Plus, Kerrygold contains a higher butterfat percentage than most other brands, resulting in a much creamier texture.<\/p>\n Essentially, it\u2019s getting a lot of love because it really does taste that good.<\/p>\n But the brand is also leaning into its Irish heritage.<\/p>\n The \u2018Green Wave\u2019 continues to dominate pop culture. House of Guinness was Netflix<\/a>\u2019s autumn smash hit \u2014 and it doesn\u2019t hurt that those Irish boys are so darn cute (hello, Anthony Boyle).<\/p>\n The Devonshire \u2014 which doesn\u2019t claim to be an Irish pub, but famously serves the best pint of The Black Stuff in London<\/a> \u2014 continues to be jam-packed most nights of the week, and the Guinness Open Gate Brewery opens its doors in Covent Garden next month.<\/p>\n Us Brits can\u2019t get enough of our craic-loving neighbours across the sea, and this summer<\/a>, Kerrygold even took a group of content creators on a tour around the Irish countryside, showcasing the country\u2019s luscious landscapes.<\/p>\n The introduction of new flavours such as the Maple Syrup Spreadable and Garlic and Herb Butter Stick have also further widened their fan base.<\/p>\n \u2018It can solve any problem\u2019<\/p>\n \t\t Although Kerrygold might be a new discovery for some, for the Irish people, it\u2019s a brand baked into their identity.<\/p>\n Carmel Lindsay, 58, who is originally from Offaly, tells\u00a0Metro: \u2018Being Irish and having left home many years ago there are certain foods I always miss that I couldn\u2019t always readily buy in other countries. One of those things is Kerrygold butter.\u2019<\/p>\n She continued: \u2018It has a standalone taste that no other butters seem to be able to replicate, but it\u2019s also a sentimental thing; the taste conjures up memories of cosy family night\u2019s making toast by the fire and not sparing its golden deliciousness.\u2019<\/p>\n Despite being widely circulated in supermarkets<\/a> now, Carmel explained that back in the day she used to have to \u2018smuggle a few pounds of it away\u2019 with her after a home visit.<\/p>\n To further understand the hype, Metro\u2018s proudly Irish, Consultant Editor, Alice Murphy, reached out to her group chat \u2013 all of whom were keen to share their thoughts on Kerrygold.<\/p>\n \u2018It\u2019s the saltiness,\u2019 come the first quick response. \u2018People go mad for French butter, but that\u2019s unsalted and then they end up adding salt on top. Kerrygold is naturally salty, and I guess it\u2019s got that quality from the cows it comes from, who are fed on grass that\u2019s always drenched in rain<\/a>.\u2019<\/p>\n Another Irish butter-lover added: \u2018I\u2019m biased because I lived away from Ireland for years but it takes like home. Nostalgic. You can have it on bread without anything else and it is it\u2019s own thing.
