13.50 Newbury \u2013 Wendigo<\/a><\/p>\n

ITV Racing is back Friday with action from Newbury and Southwell, starting here with a Grade 2 novice chase over 2m4f. This looks a decent event. Regent\u2019s Stroll has always had a big reputation and a rating of 143 puts him right in the mix. But his head carriage has never been sexy. I thought WENDIGO should have won on chasing debut but he was done in by a brilliant ride from Sean Bowen on Wade Out. That form has been franked since and a fifth to Jasmin de Vaux in the Albert Bartlett showed Wendigo is a pretty decent beast. Gavin Sheehan rides once again for Jamie Snowden.<\/p>\n

Now a handicap chase over 2m4f. FILANDERER will have to run the race of his life here to score off 122 having gone up a whopping 10lb for his last success even though he was left clear two out by carnage! That all said, he stays well and jumps for fun and is on a right role after four consecutive successes. This might be a step too far, but I\u2019ll take the chance with Jonny Burke riding for Hughie Morrison.<\/p>\n

ITV go to the all-weather for two, starting with the Listed Churchill Stakes over 1m3f. DUBAI HONOUR has been a great servant for William Haggas and he can turn over Shader here even giving 4lb. My selection has no problem with the all-weather and has decent form at both Kempton and Newcastle. This track should be no issue and he ran well when last seen in France\u00a0chasing home Convergent in a Group 2. This trip is ideal. Cieren Fallon rides.<\/p>\n

Now the Grade 2 Long Distance Hurdle over an extended 3m. Ahoy Senor and Hewick could both outrun their odds, but STRONG LEADER has everything in his favour and I thought did really well on comeback when scoring for the column at Wetherby. It\u2019s his fourth run since a wind operation and gets cheekpieces to try and make him an easier ride. A Flat track is what he wants and he\u2019s the defending champion. This contest is not much tougher than last year. Sean Bowen is on top for Olly Murphy.<\/p>\n

Now the Listed Golden Rose Stakes over 6f. ROGUE LIGHTNING should have every chance of a place at least for Tom Clover and James Doyle. The five-year-old started off the season in winning form abroad and went to Keeneland to finish second in a Grade 2. He was last seen at Newmarket when only ninth in the Group 1 July Cup, but this is a big drop in grade and at his best he\u2019d have a huge chance. He once finished fifth in the Group 1 Abbaye which is pretty decent form in this context.<\/p>\n

15.35 Newbury \u2013 Thunder Rock<\/a> (each-way)<\/p>\n

A handicap hurdle over an extended 3m. Not all of these are confirmed stayers at this trip. That includes THUNDER ROCK, who mainly has been running over fences over shorter trips. However, he can run over hurdles off 134 and this time last year was rated 149. He didn\u2019t stay this trip at Haydock in February but that was a Grade 2 and it\u2019s possible he simply was outclassed. Anyway, this is tricky and I\u2019ll chance a few quid each-way with loads of question marks about many of the others. Sean Bowen will give it his all for Olly Murphy. Let\u2019s hope he\u2019s ready and happy.<\/p>\n
