The rapper<\/a> from Tallahassee, FL, first experienced commercial success\u00a0with the release of \u201cI\u2019m Sprung\u201d in 2005, which was the lead<\/a> single from his debut album \u201cRappa Ternt Sanga.\u201d The song peaked at No. 8 and remained on Billboard\u2019s Hot 100 Chart for 26 weeks, Revolt reports.<\/a><\/p>\n In 2007, \u201cBuy U A Drank\u201d was released and was even more successful. The song reached No. 1 on Billboard\u2019s Hot 100 Chart and went triple Platinum, according to<\/a> Genius.<\/p>\n T-Pain reflected on the success<\/a> of the single and how it impacted his wealth on the \u201cClub Shay Shay\u201d podcast. He made revenue,<\/a> but suggested he could have earned more if the masters<\/a> and publishing rights\u00a0 agreement had been different.<\/p>\n His song paid respect to rappers Lil Scrappy and Lil Jon,<\/a> prompting the artists to claim publishing rights.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I did \u2018I\u2019mma Buy U A Drank, then I\u2019mma take you home with me. I got money in the bank.\u2019 As soon as I said \u2018Money in the bank,\u2019 that\u2019s when Lil Scrappy came in and was like, \u2018Okay. Well, he said a line from my song\u2019. Lil Scrappy had the song at the time, \u2018I got money in the bank. Shawty what ya thank \u2026 So, at the beginning of the song when I say, \u2018Snap your fingers, do your step. You can do it all by [yourself].\u2019 Then Lil Jon came in, \u2018Well, since this song is doing well, don\u2019t mind if I do,’\u201d T-Pain shared on the podcast.<\/p>\n \u201cI thought I was paying homage and then the people that could take advantage of it, they took advantage of it. But the thing was they took advantage of the publishing<\/a> and the master of it,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n T-Pain added that he does not believe Lil Scrappy and Lil Jon were directly behind it all, but rather their publishers.<\/p>\n \u201cLil Jon probably still don\u2019t know that we went through that whole thing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n The silver lining for T-Pain was that while others may be profiting<\/a> from the masters and publishing rights of the single, that wasn\u2019t slowing down his earnings from performing it.
