Construction firm Robins & Morton celebrated the topping out of the $150 million vertical expansion<\/a> at Huntsville Hospital Madison Street Tower on Nov. 19.<\/p>\n

The five-story, 154,000-square-foot project will add 120 beds as well as a cardiothoracic intensive care unit, a neuro intensive care unit for neurosurgical and stroke patients, three floors of new acute medical space, and a new and improved emergency department vehicle entrance.<\/p>\n

The project will also convert 70 existing patient rooms from double occupancy to single occupancy. When the expansion is complete, the hospital will have a total of 931 patient beds, up from 881 currently.<\/p>\n

The project is scheduled for completion in 2027.<\/p>\n

Robins & Morton, which built the Madison Street Tower in 2006, is serving as the general contractor. Chapman Sisson Architects is the architect.<\/p>\n

It is not the only expansion in Huntsville Hospital\u2019s plans. Negotiations are underway with the city of Huntsville for a $50 million emergency room and imaging center<\/a> adjacent to the $240 million North Village Town Center<\/a> near the intersection of North Memorial Parkway and the Northern Bypass.<\/p>\n

According to the Huntsville Hospital website<\/a>, the Huntsville Hospital Health System is seeking approval from the state to build two-free standing emergency departments, including the one planned for north Huntsville. The other would be in Hampton Cove.<\/p>\n
