Tributes are being paid to former Donegal County Manager and GAA stalwart, Michael McLoone, who has passed away.<\/p>\n
His own club of Aodh Ruadh, Ballyshannon who described him as a \u201clegend, not just of Aodh Ruadh, but of Donegal.\u201d<\/p>\n
As well as his renowned skill on the GAA field, Mr McLoone was known as an astute local Government official.<\/p>\n
He was Donegal County Manager from 1994 until 2010, and oversaw a number of groundbreaking initiatives, including the construction of Public Services Centres in Carndonagh, Donegal Town, Dungloe, Letterkenny and Milford.<\/p>\n
He was also CEO of Beaumont Hospital in Dublin and was also on the bopard of the Health Service Executive.<\/p>\n
He is survived by his wife Imelda, his sons, Michael, David, Philip and daughter Caroline, his daughters in-law Elaine, Aoife and Louise, son in-law Noel, grandchildren Aaron, Kate, Daniel, Nicole, Emily and Conall, brothers Peter (and Liz), Paul (and Marie) and sister Catherine, nieces, nephews and all his extended family and friends.<\/p>\n
Aodh Ruadh remembered the late Mr McLoone with a fitting tribute on social media.<\/p>\n
The club noted he was named on the Donegal team of the Millennium at wing forward, and Ulster who he graced the field with in the Railway Cup.<\/p>\n
\u201cA prolific scorer and true attacking menace, he was a driving force in the Saint Joseph\u2019s team which won county championships in 1965, 1966, and 1968. Even in a team garlanded with supreme talents, McLoone stood out as a cut above,\u201d the tribute recalled.<\/p>\n
Mr McLoone will be buried following funeral mass in Ballyshannon this Wednesday.<\/p>\n
