\"Boman Boman Irani<\/a> has entered a new and fulfilling chapter in his creative life. At 65, the veteran actor surprised many by stepping behind the camera as a director for the first time with \u2018The Mehta Boys,\u2019 a deeply emotional series about the evolving bond between a father and son. The show premiered on Amazon Prime Video on February 7, 2025, and earned praise for its warmth, sensitivity, and relatable storytelling. Along with directing, Boman also pulled double duty by playing a key role alongside Avinash Tiwary, Shreya Chaudhry, and Puja Sarup.<\/p>\n

He has already begun shaping his next film<\/p>\n

Boman Irani has recently opened up in a conversation with the Hindustan Times about his future plans as a filmmaker. The actor confirmed that he has already started working on his second directorial venture, and he is deliberately steering away from the emotional family-drama space he just explored.\u201cI\u2019ve made a conscious decision: after directing a family drama, I\u2019m going to pick a completely different genre. Just because people liked the first one, I don\u2019t think I can stick to the same genre. I want to enjoy different worlds of cinema.\u201d<\/p>\n

A special year for the Irani family<\/p>\n

2025 became even more meaningful for Boman on a personal level as his son, Kayoze Irani<\/a>, also made his directorial debut. Kayoze\u2019s film \u2018Sarzameen,\u2019 featuring Kajol, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Ibrahim Ali Khan, added another proud milestone to the Irani family\u2019s journey in cinema.Boman spoke candidly about how direction is a tough and emotionally demanding process and how he often discusses the realities of filmmaking with his son.\u201cLife was never meant to be a bed of roses; you can\u2019t avoid the hardships. Making a movie is not easy. From the time you start writing to finding someone to put in the money, casting is another game altogether, and then there\u2019s budgeting. You put your heart and soul into it, but you also have to accept everybody is not going to love what you do.\u201d For Irani, direction is as much about emotional endurance as it is about craft.<\/p>\n

Directing Amitabh Bachchan is still his biggest dream<\/p>\n

Even though he has worked with some of the finest actors in the industry, Boman Irani still has one dream that stands above all else, and that is directing Amitabh Bachchan.\u201cThere are so many fine actors I want to work with. I name three, and another three will feel bad. Directing Mr. Bachchan would really be an experience for posterity, just having the gall to tell him, \u201cThis is the scene, and that is how it goes.\u201dThough he has not yet directed Bachchan, the two most recently worked together in \u2018Uunchai,\u2019 directed by Sooraj Barjatya and co-starring Anupam Kher, Parineeti Chopra, Neena Gupta, and Sarika.
