{"id":169746,"date":"2025-12-01T19:36:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-01T19:36:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/169746\/"},"modified":"2025-12-01T19:36:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-01T19:36:08","slug":"tourism-plan-focuses-on-ireland-as-a-foodie-holiday-destination-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/169746\/","title":{"rendered":"Tourism plan focuses on Ireland as a \u2018foodie\u2019 holiday destination \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"> Emphasising regional development  and turning the island into a \u201cfoodie\u201d holiday destination are part of a new plan to increase the number of tourists coming to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/\">Ireland<\/a> by one million per year for the next five years. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The aim is to bring overseas tourism revenue up to \u20ac9 billion by 2031, an increase of 50 per cent on last year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The plan, \u2018A New Era for Irish Tourism\u2019, was launched at Belvedere House in Mullingar by the T\u00e1naiste <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/simon-harris\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/simon-harris\/\">Simon Harris<\/a> and Minister for Business, Tourism and Trade Peter Burke on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/tourism-ireland\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/tourism-ireland\/\">Tourism Ireland<\/a> will market \u201cstandout seasonal events\u201d such as Winter in Dublin, Home of Halloween and St Patrick\u2019s Day across overseas markets to attract visitors beyond the \u201csummer peak\u201d, it says. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The number of tourists visiting Ireland is down so far this year compared with 2024. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In the months to October 2025, total visitor numbers were just over 5.4 million, down 6.4 per cent on the same 10 month period in 2024 when Ireland welcomed 5.8 million people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A total of 568,900 people made visits to Ireland last month \u2013 a 4 per cent increase on October 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The plan also includes supporting tourism-related SMEs to \u201cgrow and scale to\u201d compete on the domestic and international markets and harness the full potential of digital and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/artificial-intelligence\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/artificial-intelligence\/\">AI<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2025\/11\/27\/tourism-spend-drops-in-october-despite-rise-in-numbers\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tourism spend drops in October despite rise in numbersOpens in new window<\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Mr Burke said improving digitalisation among smaller businesses would be \u201ccritical\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cEighty per cent of people who plan their trips get all their information online and around 30 per cent are using generative AI to plan their itinerary,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cSo we really need to work with businesses developing their digital proposition, their process transformation. A huge amount of work will be done in that area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The minister also said he was confident the country has enough capacity to meet growing tourism demands.
