PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) \u2014 As the Portland Art Museum reopened its doors, it welcomed 28,000 visitors for its grand opening week in late November.<\/p>\n

The museum celebrated with four free days of art-making, food, and music.<\/p>\n

The museum’s transformation project connected two historic buildings, adding nearly 100,000 square feet of new or upgraded space.<\/p>\n

The new entrance pavilion honors the renowned American artist Mark Rothko, who emigrated from Russia and grew up in Portland, featuring a chronological display of his works.<\/p>\n

The pavilion was made possible by a partnership with Rothko’s children, who loaned major paintings from their private collection.<\/p>\n

The museum now operates Tuesday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering exhibitions such as over 100 of Yoshida Chizuko’s works, “Global Impressionism,” featuring artists such as Claude Monet, Henri Matisse, Th\u00e9o van Rysselberghe and more, in addition to “The Art of Mark Rothko” exhibition among many others. All current exhibitions on view can be found on the museum’s website.<\/a><\/p>\n

Visitors can also enjoy the new European-inspired bistro inside the museum, Coquelico. <\/p>\n
