{"id":170783,"date":"2025-12-02T09:30:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-02T09:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/170783\/"},"modified":"2025-12-02T09:30:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-02T09:30:07","slug":"irish-hoteliers-welcome-new-national-tourism-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/170783\/","title":{"rendered":"Irish Hoteliers Welcome New National Tourism Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hospitalityireland.com\/tag\/irish-hotels-federation\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Irish Hotels Federation (IHF)<\/a> has welcomed the publication of the government\u2019s five-year National Tourism Policy.<\/p>\n<p>The federation said the new policy sets out a &#8220;clear and achievable ambition&#8221; to enhance the economic and social contribution of Irish tourism as a critically important employer.<\/p>\n<p>The government aims to grow overseas tourism revenue to \u20ac9 billion by 2031 (+6% per annum excluding carrier fares) and domestic tourism revenue to \u20ac5.8 billion by 2031 (+7% per annum).<\/p>\n<p>The plan also sets out to increase tourism employment by at least 9% by 2031 (compared with 2024).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Ireland\u2019s most regionally dispersed indigenous employer, tourism is a key cornerstone of our nation\u2019s economic prosperity,&#8221; said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hospitalityireland.com\/tag\/paul-gallagher\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paul Gallagher<\/a>, IHF Chief Executive. &#8220;This is clearly recognised throughout the government\u2019s new tourism strategy with a very welcome commitment to supporting businesses, increasing employment and delivering sustainable long-term growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other policy targets set out by the government include prioritising growth in the off-peak season (October to May) and reducing tourism-related emissions by 45% by 2030 (compared with 2018 levels).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s announcement builds on the decision earlier this year to move the tourism portfolio to within a reconfigured Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment led by Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hospitalityireland.com\/tag\/peter-burke\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Peter Burke<\/a>, thereby bringing greater economic focus and a more coherent and coordinated approach to policy planning for our sector,&#8221; said Paul Gallagher.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It also follows the welcome decision in Budget 2026 to reduce the rate of VAT on food services for struggling hospitality businesses that are facing enormous cost pressures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1937, the Irish Hotels Federation is the national organisation of the hotel and guesthouse sector in Ireland.
