<\/p>\nThe former This Morning host, 44, was at the wheel of a Mini Cooper which collided with the scooter rider as she took a right turn in Barnes, south-west London on August 28.<\/p>\n
Willoughby, who is the favourite to become the new host of BBC\u2019s Strictly Come Dancing, pleaded guilty via post at Lavender Hill magistrates court.<\/p>\n
She was absent for her sentencing hearing on Tuesday, when magistrates ordered her to pay \u00a32,444 \u2013 made up of a \u00a31,653 fine plus costs and a victim surcharge.<\/p>\n
The court heard the TV star had not indicated ahead of turning, and apparently had not seen the scooter approaching.<\/p>\n
Willoughby, who was charged under her married name, Holly Baldwin, was also handed six penalty points for her driving licence.<\/p>\n
According to the Mail, prosecutor Geraldine Dickinson told the court that the white Piaggio scooter was overtaking Willoughby\u2019s car and was sent flying to the ground when they collided.<\/p>\n
He reportedly suffered a fractured neck and a broken toe.<\/p>\n
Her lawyer, Aisling Byrnes, characterised the incident as a \u201cmomentary lapse of judgement\u201d, and said she herself has been left \u201ctraumatised\u201d.<\/p>\n
In a statement from the victim presented to the court, he wrote: \u201cI was travelling at a speed of around 20mph (32kmh) and was slowing down to stop.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs I was level with the black Mini Cooper the driver turned right without indicating in order to enter the road. This caused me to be thrown to the ground in the carriageway.\u201d<\/p>\n
The court heard Willoughby went to the man\u2019s aid after the crash, offering the rider water and her mobile phone to make calls.<\/p>\n
She also told police at the scene that the crash had been her fault, the Mail reported.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe was traumatised to find she had caused this accident and the injury\u201d, said Ms Byrnes.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis was an unsafe manoeuvre. There was no indicator used. Whether she looked in her mirrors is unclear. The driver didn’t see the overtaking moped driver.\u201d<\/p>\n
