For many, responsibilities slowly take priority, and the body becomes an afterthought. But then someone comes along and proves that age is not a limitation unless you decide it is. One such inspiration is Nishriin Parikh, a 59-year-old mother of two, international bikini model and award-winning bodybuilder who continues to challenge the idea of what women “can or cannot do” after a certain age.How to stay fit at 60?
Nishriin recently shared a video where she confidently introduced herself as a “mother, wife and daughter-in-law who also happens to be a bikini model”, and revealed six simple steps anyone can follow to stay fit not only at 59 but all the way to 60 and beyond.
Step 1: Sit and drink water
One of her first rules is surprisingly simple: never gulp water while standing. She stresses the importance of drinking mindfully while seated, which she believes improves digestion and keeps the body calmer and more hydrated.

Step 2: Choose what is right for you
Temptation is everywhere, but Nishriin emphasises learning to select what the body needs rather than what tastebuds crave. According to her, there will always be countless food choices, the trick is to pick what truly nourishes you.

Step 3: Prioritise weight training
Strength training is her biggest non-negotiable. She encourages everyone, especially women, to lift weights because it builds power, confidence and functional strength. In her words, lifting weights “lifts you up” in more ways than one.

Step 4: Avoid crash diets
Quick-fix diets may look promising, but she warns they do more harm than good. Crash diets often lead to a cycle of losing weight rapidly and gaining it all back. For her, real fitness lies in rest, recovery and repetition, not starvation.

Step 5: Cheat days, not cheat years
Nishriin admits she enjoys cheat days too, but the key is balance. A day of indulgence should not become weeks or months of unhealthy eating.

Step 6: Don’t compare your fitness journey to others
Social media is filled with influencers and athletes, but she encourages people to start from their own level rather than copying someone else’s advanced routine. It’s never too late to begin, the alphabet of fitness starts with the basics.

Who is Nishriin Parikh?
As her Instagram bio introduces her, “Fit at 59. IBBF International Model/Fitness Physique Athlete,” Nishriin Parikh’s story is extraordinary not because she defied age, but because she pursued passion despite life’s many roles. At 50, when many women are told to “slow down,” she chose to enter her first bikini competition. Standing on stage next to contestants half her age, she realised she belonged there just as much as anyone else. That day, she won, and it changed her life.

Her journey with fitness started long before that moment. As a teenager, she loved karate. Later, while raising her children, she continued practicing everything she could squeeze into her schedule, from yoga to Pilates to aerobics. By the time she decided to compete at 50, she had spent decades building her foundation quietly.

Today, at 59, she has competed across Asia, taken part in world championships and even model hunts. She runs Yogasstrength, her own hybrid fitness program combining yoga, Pilates and strength training. She teaches karate, practices gymnastics with her daughter and wears her post-surgery scars proudly, calling them proof of resilience rather than something to hide. Her husband, also a karate enthusiast, remains her strongest support system.

For Nishriin, the biggest learning came late but firmly: there is never a perfect time to start. Life will always get busy, responsibilities will always be there, and self-doubt will creep in. But the moment a person takes their first step, whether drinking water mindfully or lifting that first dumbbell, the journey begins.

Stay tuned for such untold stories!

Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source

Most people assume that fitness has an expiry date, somewhere after marriage, kids, or turning 40.
