A recovering addict<\/a> has shared the three differences between a casual drinker and an alcoholic.<\/a><\/p>\n

TikTok<\/a> creator and YouTuber Correy Warren said in a video that alcohol dependency is not just about how much someone drinks.<\/p>\n

He says: \u201cMost people think that an alcoholic is just someone who drinks too much, but the truth is, the difference is not in how much I drink. It\u2019s in how I drink.\u201d<\/p>\n

Persistent alcohol misuse raises the risk of health conditions such as heart disease<\/a>, stroke<\/a>, liver disease<\/a>, pancreatitis<\/a> and numerous cancers.<\/p>\n

Here are Warren\u2019s three signs for alcohol dependency:<\/p>\n

Never having a reason for not drinking<\/p>\n

Warren says that one thing that distinguishes a casual drinker from someone who has an alcohol dependency is never having a reason for not drinking.<\/p>\n

\u201cNormal drinkers, they have a reason for not drinking. Maybe my kids wake up early or I have to go to work or I\u2019m getting up early so I can work out,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, people who are addicted to drinking always have a justification for drinking.<\/p>\n

\u201cBad day? I\u2019m drinking. If I\u2019m stressed out? I\u2019m drinking. If I\u2019m fighting with my wife? I\u2019m drinking. Or, if something good happened and I want to celebrate, I\u2019m drinking.\u201d<\/p>\n

Risks of alcohol misuse<\/p>\n

Short term<\/p>\n

Violent behaviour and being a victim of violence<\/p>\n

Unprotected sex that could result in pregnancy or STIs<\/p>\n

Alcohol poisoning (which can lead to vomiting, fits and unconsciousness)<\/p>\n

Long term<\/p>\n

Brain damage, which can lead to problems with thinking and memory<\/p>\n

Not being able to stop at one drink<\/p>\n

According to Warner, another sign of an alcohol addiction is not being able to control how much they drink in a night.<\/p>\n

\u201cNormal drinkers, they can have one, two, and then put it down. They know when enough is enough,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

\u201cMe, I never had that switch.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cAlcohol determined when enough was enough. If there was a drink in front of me, I was drinking it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wondering if you have a problem with alcohol<\/p>\n

Warner says that wondering if you are an alcoholic could be a sign that your relationship with alcohol is unhealthy.<\/p>\n

\u201cNormal drinkers, they don\u2019t wonder if they have a problem with alcohol. They don\u2019t wrestle with the thought that maybe they shouldn\u2019t drink.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cI was constantly asking myself: is this good for me? Am I sure I should be doing this? Maybe I\u2019m taking this too far? Maybe I\u2019m an alcoholic? Maybe I should stop?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThose are all questions that normal drinkers, they never ask,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n
