The new contactless payment offering is rolling out in 14 European markets, the Swedish FinTech announced in a Tuesday (Dec. 2)\u00a0news release<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith more than 80% of European shopping still\u00a0happening in physical stores<\/a>, Tap to Pay brings consumers the ease of online shopping into the bricks and mortar stores,\u201d the release said. \u201cInstead of hunting for cards or juggling apps, everything sits in one place \u2014 the Klarna app \u2014 making every purchase smoother from start to finish.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the release, the tap-to-pay offering lets consumers set up flexible payment plans and pay with a tap, in a single place and without needing to add their card to another digital wallet or switch apps at checkout.<\/p>\n

It follows the recent launch of the\u00a0debit-first Klarna Card<\/a>, which the company says is used by more than 4 million consumers.<\/p>\n

\u201cTap to Pay brings us closer to our vision of Klarna being everywhere for everything. Now you can set up a flexible payment plan and tap to pay in seconds, all inside the Klarna app,\u201d said\u00a0David Fock<\/a>, Klarna\u2019s chief product and design officer.<\/p>\n

Klarna is launching the new service in an environment where consumers have come to automatically expect smooth,\u00a0hassle-free digital experiences<\/a>\u00a0while shopping.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not just about looking into the future anymore. This is about offering solutions that consumers expect today,\u201d\u00a0Julie Malikayil<\/a>, senior manager, payments products at Discover\u00ae Network, told PYMNTS in June.<\/p>\n

Contactless transactions, backed by innovations like\u00a0mobile wallets<\/a>, tap-on-mobile\u00a0 and open-loop transit payments, are becoming the expected go-to payment method, that report added. For younger consumers used to digital convenience, the ability to pay anytime, anywhere with a single tap has moved from being a luxury to an expectation.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you don\u2019t support contactless, you may be missing out on business,\u201d Malikayil said. \u201cTechnology is moving faster than [businesses] can keep up with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, PYMNTS wrote last month about Klarna\u2019s first earnings call since becoming a\u00a0publicly-traded company<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During that call, CEO\u00a0Sebastian Siemiatkowski<\/a>\u00a0said the company\u2019s goal is to be \u201cavailable everywhere Visa is\u201d while developing fuller\u00a0banking capabilities<\/a>.<\/p>\n
