Commuters in Dublin have been advised to expect traffic disruption this afternoon as taxi drivers stage a further protest.<\/p>\n
This is the second protest being staged by taxi drivers against Uber\u2019s new fixed rates. The demonstration got under way at 4.30pm on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed have advised the public to expect disruption in Dublin city due to the protest. Delays are expected in the vicinity of Dublin Airport and Conyngham Road to Merrion Street via the Northside city centre quay.<\/p>\n
Delays are also expected from UCD to Merrion Square via the N11, and the Estuary Road, Swords and Northwood, and Santry.<\/p>\n
Motorists have been encouraged to avoid these routes where possible and allow extra time for any commute in the surrounding areas.<\/p>\n

A similar protest that also got underway at 4.30pm is being held by taxi drivers in Galway city.<\/p>\n
Dublin Airport has said traffic is expected to be heavier than usual on roads around the airport due to the protest, leading to significant disruption and delays for passengers travelling to and from the airport.<\/p>\n
Those travelling to the airport have been advised to allow additional time and consider alternate routes, including accessing the airport via Junction 4 Ballymun on the M50.<\/p>\n
In a post on X, Dublin Airport said airport police are working closely with garda\u00ed, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, Dublin City Council and Fingal County Council to minimise disruption.<\/p>\n
Uber recently introduced a fixed-price model, guaranteeing a maximum fare upfront instead of an estimated price range that can rise with traffic or route changes.<\/p>\n
The company has said the measure reduces \u201cmeter anxiety\u201d and allows passengers to pay a lower amount if the fare comes in under the fixed price.<\/p>\n
