{"id":175073,"date":"2025-12-04T16:57:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-04T16:57:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/175073\/"},"modified":"2025-12-04T16:57:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T16:57:07","slug":"onlyfans-creators-fear-for-personal-safety-if-named-on-tax-defaulters-list-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/175073\/","title":{"rendered":"OnlyFans creators \u2018fear for personal safety\u2019 if named on tax defaulters\u2019 list \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/onlyfans\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/onlyfans\/\">OnlyFans<\/a> creators and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/social-media\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/social-media\/\">social media<\/a> influencers who face being named on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/revenue-commissioners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/revenue-commissioners\/\">Revenue<\/a> tax defaulters\u2019 lists say they fear for their personal safety if their addresses are published.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Revenue publishes lists every three months of defaulters who have liabilities of more than \u20ac50,000, including their names and addresses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Content creators who stream material on OnlyFans, which is often sexually explicit, and other social media figures, fear for their personal safety if Revenue publishes their home addresses, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/tax\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/tax\/\">tax<\/a> adviser, Brendan Brady.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The creators, many of whom are young women, tend to work from home. This is the address the Revenue has on its records for them, and so, if they fail to pay their taxes, it is the address published along with their names, their occupation and the tax and penalties they must pay, according to Mr Brady.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThey are worried about their personal safety,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd some of them will have had certain fans or followers that they might have had problems with in the past.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Many may still be living with family, often in small towns or communities, Mr Brady added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He noted that harassment of women and minorities prompted the Electoral Commission to call for a change in the law to remove election candidates\u2019 names from ballot papers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Mr Brady, whose firm, Brady &amp; Associates, has been advising growing numbers of content creators and influencers in recent years, said they can earn up to \u20ac200,000 a year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">However, many of them are young with no experience of dealing with the tax authorities and do not know how to respond when Revenue contacts them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThey\u2019re in their early to mid-20s, that\u2019s the demographic you\u2019re dealing with,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Revenue says that publishing the address of someone who appears on the defaulters\u2019 list ensures that the correct person is identified. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">People or businesses appear on defaulters\u2019 lists where the amount of tax due is more than \u20ac50,000, the penalties exceed 15 per cent of the liability and they fail to voluntarily disclose details to Revenue of the activity for which the fine or penalty was imposed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Revenue says it has collected more than \u20ac3.3 million over the last five years from \u201csocial media influencers, content creators or other individuals operating through online platforms\u201d whom the agency audited as it believed they were not paying the full amount of tax due.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It has issued notices to more than 450 others seeking voluntary compliance, a statement added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2025\/03\/11\/irish-onlyfans-star-matthew-gilbert-named-in-latest-list-of-tax-defaulters\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2025\/03\/11\/irish-onlyfans-star-matthew-gilbert-named-in-latest-list-of-tax-defaulters\/\">Matthew Gilbert, dubbed the Irish Viking<\/a>, appeared on the March defaulters\u2019 list after paying more than \u20ac350,000 in tax, interest and penalties.
