The fair\u2019s flurry of initial transactions included several seven-figure deals, led by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/partner\/david-zwirner\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">David Zwirner<\/a>\u2019s sale of an abstract <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/gerhard-richter\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gerhard Richter<\/a> painting for $5.5 million.<\/p>\n<p>The number of high-value sales on opening day seems to reflect a wave of positive market sentiment, which swelled following the strong performance of last month\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/article\/artsy-editorial-4-reasons-novembers-new-york-auctions-point-stronger-art-market\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York auctions<\/a>. Those sales brought in a total of $2.2 billion, assuaging some lingering fears about the tepidness of the market\u2019s top end earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Richter, for his part, has experienced a surge in interest this fall, coinciding with his sweeping <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/article\/artsy-editorial-11-must-see-museum-fall\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">retrospective<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/partner\/fondation-louis-vuitton\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fondation Louis Vuitton<\/a> in Paris. A $23 million Richter work offered by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/partner\/hauser-and-wirth\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hauser &amp; Wirth<\/a> also led the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/article\/artsy-editorial-23-million-gerhard-richter-painting-leads-art-basel-paris-opening-sales\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">opening sales at Art Basel Paris<\/a> in October.<\/p>\n<p>While it didn\u2019t clinch the leading sale this time, Hauser &amp; Wirth reported impressive sales, including one $4 million transaction on opening day. Marc Payot, president of the gallery, noted in a press statement that, \u201cIn the first three hours of the fair, our sales have already totaled 40% more than we made in the entire week at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/article\/artsy-editorial-sold-art-basel-miami-beach-2024\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">last year\u2019s Art Basel Miami Beach<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Here, we round up some of the leading initial sales reported by galleries at Art Basel Miami Beach.
