{"id":176742,"date":"2025-12-05T15:15:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-05T15:15:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/176742\/"},"modified":"2025-12-05T15:15:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T15:15:08","slug":"breaking-new-retailer-confirmed-at-former-debenhams-building-in-limerick-city-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/176742\/","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING: New retailer confirmed at former Debenhams building in Limerick city centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SPANISH fashion chain Mango is set to open an outlet at the former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/section\/233\/business\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Debenhams<\/a> building in Limerick city centre.<\/p>\n<p>The unit has been largely out of use since Easter 2020, at the start of the Covid-19 lockdown when the British retailer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/home\/533490\/breaking-huge-blow-to-limerick-as-debenhams-to-close-permanently.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">collapsed into liquidation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But now the prime art-deco style building at the junction of O&#8217;Connell Street and Sarsfield Street is set for a new lease of life.<\/p>\n<p>Signage belonging to Mango, which was founded in Barcelona 41 years ago, has been plastered on the window of the building this Friday.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Mango-1764936577396.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\"\/><\/p>\n<p>It is a fast-fashion retailer, which designs, manufactures and markets women, mens and children&#8217;s clothing and accessories.<\/p>\n<p>Refurbishment work has been taking place at the landmark building for the last few months, with planning permission also secured for an aparthotel.<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/home\/1960204\/limerick-father-of-five-has-died-in-a-farm-accident.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Limerick father-of-five has died in a farm accident<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The overall project is being led by Galway developer Michael McDonagh.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the news, Independent councillor Maria Donoghue said: &#8220;I am\u00a0delighted to see the refurbishment and reoccupation of this important building in the heart of Limerick City. Increasing the population of Limerick city centre remains paramount as a main force for a thriving city. However, continued investment like this helps create a vibrant, thriving urban core where people will want to live and work. Together with the recent completion of its neighbour, Keane\u2019s Jewellers, this development sends a strong signal of confidence in Limerick City.
