Charlton Athletic have confirmed that a fan has died following a medical emergency during their fixture against Portsmouth<\/p>\n

Charlton Athletic have delivered the devastating confirmation that a supporter has tragically passed away after suffering a medical emergency during their clash with Portsmouth.<\/p>\n

The encounter at The Valley was suspended after just 12 minutes when fellow fans and players spotted the unfolding crisis and immediately raised the alarm.<\/p>\n

Emergency medical treatment was administered on the spot, with officials making the decision to abandon the match around 45 minutes later.<\/p>\n

The Championship club <\/a>has now released a statement confirming the supporter’s tragic passing, reports The Mirror.<\/p>\n

The statement declared: “The club are devastated to report that a Charlton Athletic supporter has died following a medical emergency during today’s game at The Valley against Portsmouth.”<\/p>\n

It continued: “The match was halted in the 12th minute while the supporter received treatment and was subsequently postponed.”<\/p>\n

“The club would like to thank the Charlton staff and first responders who did everything they could, but sadly the supporter later passed away in hospital.<\/p>\n

“The club are grateful to supporters in attendance and the Portsmouth players and staff for their patience and understanding as this tragedy unfolded.<\/p>\n

“Everyone at the club sends their heartfelt condolences to the supporter’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”<\/p>\n

Portsmouth, the away team, also paid their respects, saying: “Portsmouth Football Club are devastated to learn that the Charlton supporter taken ill at today’s game has passed away. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with their family and friends at this difficult time.”<\/p>\n

The match was abandoned with the score still at 0-0, and will be rearranged for a future date.<\/p>\n
