Fast fashion firm Asos has revealed it is using artificial intelligence to suggest outfits for shoppers as part of efforts to help turn around tumbling sales.<\/p>\n
The online retailer laid bare the scale of its revamp efforts as it said sales plunged 12% in the year to August 31, though it narrowed pre-tax losses to \u00a3281.6m (\u20ac322.6m) from \u00a3379.3m (\u20ac434.5m) the previous year.<\/p>\n
It pledged a \u201cnew era of customer re-engagement\u201d and initiatives to win over more cautious consumers.<\/p>\n
This has included its new Styled for You trial feature, using artificial intelligence (AI) to suggest outfits for shoppers.<\/p>\n
\u201cTrained on our database of 100,000-plus expertly curated studio outfits, our AI model can serve customers with curated outfit suggestions based around individual products,\u201d Asos said.<\/p>\n
Our priority for 2025-26 is to deepen our relationships with customers and make Asos not just a place to shop, but a destination for inspiration and style <\/p>\n
The group has also launched a new loyalty programme, called Asos.World.<\/p>\n
But shares in the firm tumbled 8% in afternoon trading on Friday as its forecasts for 2025-26 underlying profits missed expectations.<\/p>\n
It is guiding for underlying earnings of between \u00a3150m (\u20ac171m) and \u00a3180m (\u20ac206m), giving a mid-point of \u00a3165m (\u20ac189mm), which is below the \u00a3173m (\u20ac198m) pencilled in by most analysts.<\/p>\n
The group said sales would show an \u201cimproving trajectory throughout the financial year\u201d.<\/p>\n
Chief executive Jose Antonio Ramos Calamonte said: \u201cOur priority for 2025-26 is to deepen our relationships with customers and make Asos not just a place to shop, but a destination for inspiration and style.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dan Coatsworth, head of markets at AJ Bell, said: \u201cAsos is trying through a combination of loyalty schemes and technology, using AI to generate outfit inspiration, to drive engagement with its target demographic.\u201d<\/p>\n
