Continuing our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/2025-review\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Review of 2025<\/a>, here are the best and most insightful interviews of the year.<\/p>\n<p>With unprecedented access, we have sat down with many of the best-known and most interesting architects and designers over the past year, including Frida Escobedo, Carlo Ratti, Philippe Starck, Annabelle Selldorf and Faye Toogood.<\/p>\n<p>These long-form interviews not only give an insight into their own work, but also their thoughts and opinions on the wider issues impacting the architecture and design professions.<\/p>\n<p>If you are only going to read 10 interviews this year, these are the ones to read:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2215307\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/frida-escobedo-art-basel_dezeen_2364_col_sq1-852x852.jpg\" alt=\"Portrait of architect Frida Escobedo\" width=\"2364\" height=\"2364\"  \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/06\/18\/frida-escobedo-interview\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Frida Escobedo \u2013 &#8220;I don&#8217;t believe in specialisation&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mexican architect\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/frida-escobedo\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Frida Escobedo<\/a> is currently working on two huge cultural projects \u2013 adding a new wing to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/metropolitan-museum-of-art\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Met<\/a> in New York and renovating the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/centre-pompidou\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Centre Pompidou<\/a> in Paris.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Dezeen from her newly opened New York office, she explained the thinking behind the design of those galleries, along with her wider ethos.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m wary of people who try to define themselves too much and to hyper-specialise; I don&#8217;t believe in specialisation, I prefer to do things for the first time,&#8221; Escobedo told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think that&#8217;s why architecture is so wonderful, because even if you are doing, say, residential projects, each house is different. by dominance of luxury brands in Milan<\/a><\/p>\n<p>At Milan design week, we spoke to arguably the world&#8217;s most famous living designer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/philippe-starck\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philippe Starck<\/a>, who warned of design&#8217;s &#8220;dangerous slip to luxe&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Design is being taken over by &#8220;toxic&#8221; luxury trends, the French designer told Dezeen, reflecting on the strong presence of luxury brands at this festival.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was shocked this year at the shift from something [that] at the beginning was really democratic, it was really good design for everybody,&#8221; for civic buildings in the country.<\/p>\n<p>US President\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0is doing &#8220;what dictators do&#8221; by passing executive orders that prescribe classical architecture for federal buildings, congresswoman Dina Titus tells Dezeen in this exclusive\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/interviews\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">interview<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m a strong believer that architecture is the way that you display many of your cultural values,&#8221; concern for design in the US government.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is the White House, right?&#8221; he said. &#8220;Design is in the White House. she told Dezeen. &#8220;Nowadays, it&#8217;s become a normal part of our practice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/07\/16\/nathalie-de-vries-mvrdv-interview\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read the full interview \u203a<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2200929\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/annabelle-selldorf-interview_dezeen_2364_col_0-852x852.jpg\" alt=\"Annabelle Selldorf portrait\" width=\"2364\" height=\"2364\"  \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/05\/06\/annabelle-selldorf-gallery-renovation-sainsbury-wing-frick-collection-interview\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Annabelle Selldorf \u2013 &#8220;What matters is I know why we did things&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This year saw <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/selldorf-architects\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Selldorf Architects<\/a> complete two high-profile art gallery renovations \u2013 the National Gallery&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/sainsbury-wing\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sainsbury Wing<\/a>\u00a0in London and The Frick Collection in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/new-york-city\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York<\/a> \u2013 that both created controversy.<\/p>\n<p>Selldorf, who was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/04\/24\/ma-yansong-annabelle-selldorf-time-100\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">named alongside Ma Yansong as one of the most influential architects in the world by Time Magazine this year<\/a>, spoke about her experience of working on the art museums.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Looking back at these controversies, it&#8217;s not a foregone conclusion that everybody is going to like what you like just because you do, but I do think that real dialogue and sound reasoning go a long way to create a solid argument,&#8221; and fight back against the &#8220;over-homogenisation&#8221; of the country&#8217;s once-thriving design industry.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is a need and urgency for design to reassert itself in this country,&#8221;
