The exhibition brings together images, written materials, and video work to reflect on how personal histories intersect with broader technological and social transformations. Rather than following a linear narrative, Muscat constructs a fragmented field where memory, loss, and continuity coexist.

At the heart of the exhibition is Muscat’s interest in legacy- not as a fixed monument, but as something constantly revised, edited, and negotiated. His background in technology and digital systems shapes his approach to photography and digital art, treating these mediums not simply as tools for documentation, but as frameworks in which memory is constructed and contested.

“I have always sought to push the boundaries of photography and digital art,” Muscat explains. “This long-term project brings my background in technology closer to my art. Memorial Immortal is a snapshot of my here and now—where my life and my art have brought me today. I invite visitors to share this experience with me.”

At Valletta Contemporary, Muscat’s work engages with a space dedicated to experimental and critical practices in Malta, reflecting the gallery’s commitment to presenting artists who test the limits of their mediums and address urgent contemporary questions. The industrial setting in the heart of Valletta becomes an active part of the exhibition, contrasting with the digital and conceptual nature of the works on display.

The project has evolved with support from a close network of mentors, friends, and collaborators, whose guidance has been crucial in managing both the practical demands of an exhibition and the slower, more demanding work of sustained artistic research.

Memorial Immortal is supported by FBIC Farsons, Ta’ Dirjanu, Intervisions, PhotoINK and Snap & Print, whose backing has enabled the realisation of this ambitious project. Their support reflects a broader recognition of the importance of complex, long-term artistic enquiries that do not necessarily offer immediate or simplistic answers.

By situating intimate questions of memory and mortality within Malta’s cultural landscape, Memorial Immortal invites visitors to consider how their own stories are recorded, transformed, and potentially prolonged. The exhibition resists sentimental solutions, instead providing a precise and thoughtful space to confront what we choose to remember—and what we are prepared to let go.

The exhibition opens on 12th December, from 6pm to 9pm, and will be open to the public between 12th and 24th December, and between 7th January and 28th February 2026 from Wednesday to Saturday, between 2pm to 7pm.

The gallery will be closed on public holidays and from 25th December to 6th January. Entry is free. Valletta Contemporary is located at 15–17 East Street, Valletta.

Tag a friend to go with them

Valletta Contemporary is proud to present “Memorial Immortal”, a solo exhibition by Sergio Muscat, curated by Sue Falzon.…

[31
307,304,305,306,308,93,61,60
0":"post-181991","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-arts-and-design","8":"tag-arts","9":"tag-arts-and-design","10":"tag-artsanddesign","11":"tag-artsdesign","12":"tag-design","13":"tag-entertainment","14":"tag-ie","15":"tag-ireland
["GET
