It has certainly changed Oracle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Shares surged 36 per cent after reporting earnings. It was Oracle\u2019s biggest one-day gain since 1992, larger than anything seen during the dotcom bubble. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">For a company of its size \u2013 Oracle\u2019s valuation rose above $920 billion (\u20ac785 billion) \u2013 it represented an unprecedented repricing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The spark was not present-day earnings, which actually missed forecasts, but a blowout pipeline of future business. Bookings tripled in a single quarter to $455 billion as customers clamoured for Oracle to build data centres to train AI models.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">No one anticipated such numbers. \u201cI\u2019m sort of blown away,\u201d Guggenheim\u2019s John DiFucci said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cTruly awesome,\u201d Deutsche Bank said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cMomentous,\u201d TD Cowen said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThe biggest large-cap growth acceleration story in all of tech\u201d, UBS said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Even after the jump, Bank of America predicted another 50 per cent upside. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Ellison\u2019s personal fortune rose by more than $88 billion overnight, the biggest one-day wealth gain in history, briefly making him the world\u2019s richest man. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">However, this is not dotcom-style delirium. Then, Oracle traded on more than 100 times estimated earnings, compared with 48 today. That\u2019s still high, but Oracle looks \u201cinexpensive\u201d when adjusted for growth, says UBS.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Nearly three years after ChatGPT triggered an AI frenzy \u2013 one that propelled Nvidia on a dizzying 1,000 per cent run to become the world\u2019s most valuable company \u2013 analysts are still struggling to keep pace. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The AI trade is often said to have gone too far; to bulls, Oracle\u2019s surge suggests it has not gone far enough.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\u201cAI will change everything,\u201d says Oracle\u2019s Larry Ellison.
