Visiting restrictions have been introduced in Sligo University Hospital due to spike in flu cases in the community.<\/p>\n
The hospital is currently managing two flu outbreaks in separate wards.<\/p>\n
Staff are currently treating 27 patients with flu across Sligo University Hospital with a particularly high number of older people and children attending the ED with symptoms.<\/p>\n
193 people in Sligo were confirmed on laboratory testing with flu since the start of this flu season, including 56 last week.<\/p>\n
80 people were hospitalised in Sligo since the start of this year\u2019s flu season including 20 people last week.<\/p>\n
As a necessary infection control measure, Sligo University Hospital have introduced visiting restrictions.<\/p>\n
People are being asked to reconsider visiting and only visit if necessary.<\/p>\n

Visiting to the hospital should only be considered for direct family.
\nChildren should not be brought to visit on adult wards
\nWhere a ward is managing a flu outbreak, visiting will be limited to compassionate grounds only.
\nVisiting is only between 6-8pm each day.
\nVisiting outside these hours can only be facilitated in exceptional circumstances and should be prearranged with the Clinical Nurse Manager 2 on the ward.<\/p>\n

Symptoms of flu include a high temperature, aches and pains, headache, sore throat or cough. If you have any of these symptoms, please do not visit a loved one in the hospital. You must postpone your visit until at least 48 hours after your symptoms have cleared, this will reduce the risk of spreading infection to vulnerable patients and healthcare staff.<\/p>\n

Everyone coming to the hospital should be extra vigilant, please wash your hands and use hand gel regularly.
