{"id":184957,"date":"2025-12-10T14:34:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-10T14:34:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/184957\/"},"modified":"2025-12-10T14:34:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T14:34:07","slug":"drunk-victim-a-risk-to-herself-arrested-in-macroom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/184957\/","title":{"rendered":"Drunk \u2018victim\u2019 a risk to herself arrested in Macroom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"contextmenu internal_Body1st\">A woman who called garda\u00ed claiming she had been assaulted was arrested herself for being intoxicated in public, Macroom District Court was told.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Court presenter Sergeant Trish O\u2019Sullivan said garda\u00ed in Macroom received a call on March 1, 2025, about an alleged assault at an address at Ardancrushy, Clondrohid, Macroom, Co Cork.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">When they arrived at the scene at 10.30pm, a woman \u2014 identified as 35-year-old Rachel Price, of Tara Crea, Dooradoyle, Co Limerick \u2014 was walking along the public road in a highly intoxicated state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">No evidence could be found of any alleged assault and garda\u00ed formed the opinion that Price was intoxicated to such an extent that she was a danger to herself and to others. There was no footpath. She was arrested for being intoxicated in public, contrary to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994 and taken to Macroom Garda Station.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Defence solicitor Sean Cahill said Price, who had four previous convictions, had alcohol-related issues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">He said she had previously been in residential treatment, had not drunk alcohol since the incident, and was working in a clothing store in Limerick.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The court was told that on the evening in question, Price was visiting a friend she had met in treatment.
