Tate McRae<\/a> has reflected on her split<\/a> from The Kid LAROI <\/a>and the intense public scrutiny that came with the relationship, her first in the spotlight as an A-list pop star.<\/p>\n

McRae graced the magenta-splashed cover of Rolling Stone<\/a> on Thursday (Dec. 11). In the accompanying interview, the Canadian singer detailed how the speculation and public picking apart of her relationship with LAROI became \u201creally scary\u201d and \u201coverwhelming.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI would never talk that way, even about my friends\u2019 lives,\u201d said the 22-year-old. \u201cI didn\u2019t realize how much it would affect me, the public knowing my private life \u2014 because no one knows the full story of anything, ever. I also hate people painting a situation that\u2019s worse than it is.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cGreedy\u201d singer confirmed to RS that the breakup took place in June, after the former couple sparked dating rumors in January 2024.<\/p>\n

Rumors of a split arose when LAROI released \u201cA Cold Play,\u201d and McRae appeared to respond in September with her Billboard Hot 100 No. 3 hit \u201cTit for Tat,\u201d which many fans concocted theories around by connecting lyrics to LAROI.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut what I\u2019ve had to realize is that he\u2019s going to write songs and I\u2019m going to write songs, and that\u2019s our way of expressing ourselves,\u201d McRae added. \u201cThat\u2019s our art, that\u2019s our job. And once it\u2019s out there, it\u2019s not mine anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

One notable superstar to give Tate her flowers was Taylor Swift<\/a>, who raved about the Ryan Tedder<\/a>-produced \u201cTit for Tat\u201d during an appearance on The Tonight Show.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m such a massive fan, and I adore her,\u201d McRae gushed about Swift. \u201cSo when I pulled up my phone and saw that she had talked about it, it was one of the coolest moments ever. She is such an inspiration for me as a writer and, obviously, as a woman in the industry. For her to acknowledge that was really special.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the Rolling Stone cover, while fans have drawn parallels between Britney Spears<\/a> and McRae\u2019s artistry, Tate said not to expect her to be involved in the upcoming Britney biopic.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t really act. I need to take an acting lesson before I ever consider ever doing anything,\u201d she said. \u201cAlso, I feel like I look nothing like her, sound nothing like her, so I don\u2019t know if I\u2019d be a great fit.<\/p>\n
