Is there anything Rebecca Ferguson can\u2019t do? Over the years, she\u2019s saved the world multiple times alongside Ethan Hunt as Mission: Impossible<\/a>\u2019s Ilsa Faust. She\u2019s taken on sand, Spice, and Sardaukar warriors as Dune<\/a>\u2019s powerful Lady Jessica. She\u2019s been an astral-projecting immortal (albeit one who siphons life-force from murdering innocent children) as Rose The Hat in Doctor Sleep<\/a>. But, as she enters the world of Peaky Blinders<\/a>, playing a brand new character in feature film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man<\/a>, Ferguson was clear: there actually is something beyond her talents.<\/p>\n

\u201cBasically, I said, \u2018I can\u2019t do a fucking Brummie [accent], mate, so what are we going to do about this?\u2019\u201d she laughs, speaking to Empire in our The Immortal Man issue<\/a>. \u201c\u2018That ain\u2019t happening. Could she be Swedish?\u2019\u201d That was her response to Cillian Murphy, who had suggested her for the role of Kaulo \u2013 a mysterious new figure, an acquaintance of Murphy\u2019s Tommy Shelby, whose exact function in the story is yet to be unveiled. Accent worries aside, it all worked out \u2013 the role is Ferguson\u2019s, and you can see a world-exclusive first image of her above.<\/p>\n

For all that Ferguson has appeared in some of cinema\u2019s biggest franchises, the prospect of stepping into Peaky was still daunting \u2013 as a beloved show with passionate fans, and one that has the constant attention of the press. \u201cI try and stay away from thinking about all the people who [love it], because that\u2019s just going to freak me out,\u201d she says. \u201cIt\u2019s enough to know that once Cillian is on a horse, the paparazzi are taking pictures. You understand how big it is.\u201d Whatever role Kaulo plays, she exists in a lineage of Peaky Blinders\u2019 formidable female figures. \u201cI was also very much aware of the characters that have been there, that are no longer around, and paying homage to it,\u201d Ferguson teases. Just, don\u2019t expect a Birmingham accent.<\/p>\n
