As the festive season brings increased travel and celebrations, the Mayo Road Safety Office has\u00a0announced the launch of a new digital road safety campaign at Ireland West Airport, Knock.\u00a0The digital campaign will deliver targeted road safety messages across a number of the\u00a0airports network of digital screens to remind all road users including visitors to the county\u00a0as well as those returning home for the holidays of the importance of safe and responsible\u00a0driving over the Christmas period.<\/p>\n

At the launch, Mayo Road Safety Officer, Frances Mitchell said: \u201cThe Christmas period brings\u00a0increased demands on our roads. This campaign serves as an important reminder that every\u00a0individuals has a responsibility to act safely and consider other road users. By making simple\u00a0choices, we can help ensure a safer festive season for everyone. By using digital platforms to share clear, timely road safety messages, we can reach more people, more quickly and\u00a0remind them of the simple decisions that save lives. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Cllr Se\u00e1n Carey stated: \u201cAs many people return home for the holiday period, I\u2019m\u00a0urging all road users to take extra care on our roads. A few simple choices \u2013 slowing down,\u00a0staying focused, and never driving while under the influence of drink and\/or drugs can make\u00a0the difference between a joyful reunion and a preventable tragedy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Donal Healy, Head of Marketing and Communications, Ireland West Airport said: \u201cThe airport is pleased to be working with Mayo County Council and An Garda Sioch\u00e1na in helping to promote awareness around road safety during the festive season and reminding visitors and people returning home for Christmas to be mindful and responsible when using the roads.<\/p>\n

“With the airport set for its busiest ever Christmas season, with an expected 40,000\u00a0passengers expected to use the airport during the holiday season, we all have a\u00a0responsibility to ensure due care is taken on our roads over the coming weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n
