{"id":190544,"date":"2025-12-14T00:02:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-14T00:02:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/190544\/"},"modified":"2025-12-14T00:02:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-14T00:02:07","slug":"your-criminal-behaviour-has-to-stop-former-limerick-teacher-in-hot-water-over-drinking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/190544\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Your criminal behaviour has to stop\u2019: Former Limerick teacher in hot water over drinking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A FORMER school teacher with 54 previous convictions has been charged with two new public order offences &#8211; one of which he refutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Peter O\u2019Loughlin, of no fixed abode, was brought before the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Limerick<\/a>\u00a0City District Court for\u00a0allegedly shouting aggressively at the public while swinging a wine bottle on O\u2019Connell Street, Limerick.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Following the incident, the 41-year-old-man was brought to Henry Street Garda Station by Garda Keegan on November 6.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The court heard that Garda Keegan alleges that the man spat at him, which Mr O\u2019Loughlin &#8211; appearing via video link &#8211; denied.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Read More:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.limerickleader.ie\/news\/christmas-in-limerick\/1964140\/limerick-town-gears-up-for-christmas-with-late-night-shopping-this-festive-season.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Limerick town gears up for Christmas with &#8216;late night&#8217; shopping this festive season<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mr O\u2019Loughlin spoke out of turn during the court proceedings, and alleged that he was pepper sprayed by a garda while handcuffed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Judge Patricia Harney told the man \u201cIt would appear to me being pepper sprayed is the least of his problems\u201d and ordered the man\u2019s audio to be muted.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Judge, unimpressed with the man\u2019s previous convictions, stated: \u201cYour criminal behaviour has to stop\u201d and \u201cUp with this we will not put\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Solicitor Darach McCarthy said that Mr O\u2019Loughlin is \u201cA young man, just over 40 years of age.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The solicitor said that man has \u201chad every chance\u201d, and is a qualified school teacher who suffers from \u201cmental health issues.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He further divulged that the man previously was caring for family members, and then became homeless.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Judge Harney said Mr O\u2019Loughlin previously did not show any interest in engaging with mental health services and assessments.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr O\u2019Loughlin is contesting the section six public order charge &#8211; which relates to threatening and aggressive behaviour in public.
