Mr O\u2019Leary also quipped that the low cost airline would be better off if they didn\u2019t have someone \u201cwho was always shouting and swearing and actively lighting fires.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 64-year-old has been in talks to extend his contract for \u201cthree to five years\u201d beyond its current end in 2028.<\/p>\n

Speaking to The Financial Times this weekend, Mr O\u2019Leary said that he would make his exit in \u201cfive to 10 years\u201d and was adamant that he does not \u201cwant to hang around till 96 like [Warren] Buffett.\u201d<\/p>\n

He explained: \u201cMy contract runs out in \u201928. We\u2019re in talks at the moment about extending that. In \u201928 I\u2019ll be 67. I can\u2019t see any reason not to do another three to five-year period of time but, to my mind, I suspect we\u2019re coming to the end of it at that stage.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTaking me out at some point in the next five to 10 years would give Ryanair the opportunity to be a little bit softer and a little bit nicer,\u201d he said. \u201cRyanair would be better off if they didn\u2019t have someone who was always shouting and swearing and actively lighting fires.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month, the maverick CEO had laid into \u201cbullshit regulations\u201d which he said had been \u201cinvented by idiots in the European parliament\u201d.<\/p>\n

He also criticised the UK chancellor Rachel Reeves for \u201ctaxing the sh*t out of everything that moves\u201d.<\/p>\n

Over the years, his provocative views and outspoken nature have been credited for helping keep the company in the headlines while his unrivalled business acumen has kept the airline\u2019s costs low.<\/p>\n

He is famous for revolutionizing budget air travel in Europe through his leadership at Ryanair, a company started by the late businessman and Mr O\u2019Leary\u2019s mentor Tony Ryan.<\/p>\n

In 2009 he even suggested that Ryanair would potentially charge passengers to use toilets.<\/p>\n

In July, in an interview with the Sunday Independent, O\u2019Leary name-checked four potential young candidates from within the airline who could take over his role when he finally steps down.<\/p>\n
