Variety\u2019s\u00a0Actors on Actors\u00a0issue<\/a>, she shared how culinary school keeps her grounded \u2014 even if it initially felt overwhelming.<\/p>\n\u201cIt’s actually the thing that gives me a few to just be quiet and cook. It\u2019s an art,\u201d Taylor says. \u201cBut when I signed up and realized I had business classes and all other types of s***, I was like, \u2018Oh, s***, baby.\u2019 So now I\u2019m on my way to the\u00a0One Battle After Another\u00a0premiere on my iPad doing schoolwork.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite the workload, she says the experience helps her stay centered, noting, \u201cSome stuff you\u2019ve got to let sit for three hours before you can cook it.\u201d Between culinary school and guidance from director Paul Thomas Anderson, Teyana says she felt \u201cgeared\u201d up for\u00a0One Battle After Another\u00a0and believes she\u2019s \u201cgoing to be a great director.\u201d<\/p>\n
Teyana also opened up about working with Leonardo DiCaprio and recalled their first meeting on set. \u201cHe was already in gear. I was like, \u2018Oh, I\u2019m not bothering him.\u2019 I\u2019m a fan, but I\u2019m not a pest. I mind mine. Drink my water. I do not play,\u201d she says. \u201cWhen they yelled cut, he was like, \u2018I love you. I\u2019m such a big fan.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Alhough the two had known each other socially, they’d never worked together,\u00a0so\u00a0Teyana kept things professional. \u201cI don\u2019t bring the personal into set. This is still Leonardo DiCaprio and I\u2019m still just little old me. So I\u2019m nervous,\u201d she admits. \u201cBut how he mentors, it doesn\u2019t feel like one is above the other; he meets me where I\u2019m at.\u201d<\/p>\n
One Battle After Another\u00a0has earned nine Golden Globe nominations and arrives on HBO Max on Dec. 19, followed by its HBO linear debut on Dec. 20.<\/p>\n
