Sherlock<\/a> actor Andrew Scott and The Roses star Olivia Colman are set to lead a new film based on the life of Scottish stage and screen actor Ian Charleson.<\/p>\n

Elsinore is directed by Simon Stone (The Dig) from a script by Stephen Beresford (Pride). Scott will also serves as a producer, with filming set to being next month. <\/p>\n

Scott is on board to star as Charleson himself, while Colman is set to star as his doctor. Per the official press release, the film will also star an ensemble of “acclaimed British actors” who will be announced closer to production.<\/p>\n

Elsinore is described as “a powerful, deeply moving and inspiring true story of the actor Ian Charleson who faced incredible odds while preparing to give the performance of his life in Hamlet at the National Theatre in London”.<\/p>\n

Charleson passed away in 1990 from AIDS-related causes after being diagnosed with HIV in 1986. The news marked the first death of a UK celebrity to be openly attributed to complications from AIDS, raising awareness for the condition. <\/p>\n

An accomplished stage actor, Charleson was also known for his big screen roles in Oscar-winners Chariots of Fire, and Gandhi. <\/p>\n

Speaking about the project, director Stone commented: “This is one of the most exciting projects I’ve ever been involved in. <\/p>\n

“Stephen Beresford’s screenplay is both heartbreaking and hilarious, a beautiful ode to the power of community in times of crisis. Andrew Scott is one of the greatest actors of his generation as Ian Charleson was: it’s momentous casting.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Scott has joined the cast of It Gets Worse<\/a>, a new British sitcom<\/a> from the makers of Motherland and Derry Girls. <\/p>\n

The series will centre on “three young people who are starting to look around themselves,” thanks to their “humiliating jobs, non-existent love lives and their rapidly dwindling will to live.” It Gets Worse is set to hit Channel 4 next year.<\/p>\n
