In the after image from 16 December there is a large crater in the pier.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/6731149e-070c-48c1-aab0-cdba76598dd5.png.webp.webp\"  width=\"1600\" height=\"1150\" class=\"ssrcss-11yxrdo-Image edrdn950\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">We\u2019ve examined satellite imagery of Novorossiysk, where Ukraine says it carried out an undersea drone attack on a Russian submarine on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Imagery from 11 December, days before the attack, shows three submarines docked inside a quay, surrounded by several warships.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Another picture taken on 16 December shows only one submarine in the quay\u2019s interior, next to an area of heavy damage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A second submarine is seen along the exterior quay wall, and a third is docked farther south on another pier which is not visible in the composite above. It\u2019s unclear whether these two are the same submarines previously seen inside the quay.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Bradley Martin, a senior policy researcher at Rand, says the submarine pictured inside the quay on 16 December is the one allegedly hit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He believes it\u2019s sitting lower in the water, which may suggest some kind of damage.
